Photography: Porto, Portugal

It’s been a while, since I last went on a little holiday abroad. So I was especially excited to travel to Portugal, this month. I had been under a lot of pressure and stress for weeks and never needed a little break more. Unfortunately, before we took off, the weather predictions for Porto were absolutely terrible, but as you will see in the pictures, it took a turn for the better and I actually ended up with a nice sunburn on my forehead.

I went with my best friend and we just always have a great time, no matter what. We’ve known each other for almost twenty years and she’s my favorite person to travel with. It just works. We had our own apartment in the city center and it was the perfect location. Since the city is not super big and we had pretty much five whole days, we got to do a lot and see most of it. We certainly tried to get as much in as possible, without having to get up at seven in the morning. We liked to start our days pretty chill. And also end them that way. We’ve been back for a week now and I still miss our time together. It always takes me a while to get over the travel blues.

It is super old, but has it’s very own charm and gladly, there are plenty of ways to get around. We walked a lot and took a ride with one of the old cable cars, as well. I think we also took a regular bus once and the metro to get to and from the airport. We had tickets for a hop-on/hop-off bus, including a wine tasting and a boat cruise and got to see pretty much everything we wanted to. A stroll across both levels of the Ponte Dom Luís I bridge is an absolute must and a ride with the gondola, as well. If the weather is nice, make sure to take a ride to the beach and go for a nice long stroll along the shore.

There are definitely a lot of things to do and I feel like we sure did everything you need to. I’m planning on doing a “Ten things to do…” kind of post as well, in case you’re considering adding Porto to your travel list. But for now, these photos have to be enough. I loved this trip and highly recommend going there. A city full or character, plenty of things to do, it’s cheap, the people are super friendly and I doubt that you would ever get bored.
