And the Grammy goes to… – 2016 Recap

Grammys

It’s been two days since the Grammy’s aired and people are still talking about it, as they should. Honestly, I read a lot of comments about the show being boring but I don’t really agree. I mean, these are not the MTV awards where Miley Cyrus get’s naked every year. I thought it was a really good mix of popular artists, great performances and a handful of surprising moments. My favorite thing though was to watch Camera 2 on the official Grammy homepage, to see what’s going on in the audience. So here is my opinion on this year’s Grammy’s.

Fashion
The outfits on the red carpet weren’t exactly jaw-dropping but I think that’s a good thing. I’m a little over all the over-the top arrivals because I want it to be about the music and not about who wore less fabric than somebody else. Ciara! And that lady in her silver burlesque-like piece of nothing. The Grammy’s are a not wild, they’re a little more conventional and majorly important for the music industry. Therefore, we saw a lot of black on the red carpet and since I’m a huge fan of being dressed in black, I support that. And it does look great on a red carpet that is actually red. Carrie Underwood, Adele, Demi Lovato, Bella Hadid, Alessandra Ambrosio all did it and all looked absolutely stunning. It may be a safe choice but you can never really go wrong with a pretty black dress.

A few ladies were a little more into colors and left great impressions. Tori Kelly looked stunning in green and she truly is such a beautiful and talented girl. Ellie Goulding looked cute and so did Chrissi Teigen and John Legend who are the ultimate relationship goals. I have to say, my highlight were Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez. I am a fan of celebrating friendship and they looked absolutely fabulous while doing it. Selena stunned in blue glitter and also in red satin during the show. And Taylor, I want to steal that pink skirt. It did remind me of her 2015 mermaid-ish dress, which I loved as well. Although I do think she should eat a little more, she wore my favorite outfit. I wasn’t a huge fan of Justin Bieber’s blonde hair but his cute brother made up for it and this may surprise people, but I didn’t hold my breath when Beyoncé entered the stage. I think she can do so much better.

Performances
I have to say, I’m still a little bummed that Rihanna didn’t make it to the stage because I was really excited to see what she does. Of course, I was also looking forward to the lovely Adele but what can I say, we all heard it. Someone messed up that performance. She handled it like a pro though. Of course I loved Taylor opening the show because I’m a fan and I didn’t quite get what she was upset about, afterward. I was watching the audience camera and wished, I could perfectly read lips. Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd of course slayed but I didn’t expect anything else from these two talents. Lady Gaga was on point, Hamilton was great and all the duets were amazing. Tori Kelly and James Bay should definitely record something together, Sam Hunt and Carrie Underwood performed well but nobody cared, since everyone was busy analyzing Sam’s hottie potential, and Ellie’s and Andra’s mashup was awesome. I had goosebumps when Demi Lovato sang for Lionel and when Little Big Town performed “Girl Crush,” I was almost in tears and completely fell in love with the song. I haven’t heard it before and now, I cannot stop listening to it. I could go on and on like this because all performances were pretty amazing and it was a great mix.

Awards
I don’t think that there were a lot of surprises there. In my opinion, with artists like Taylor, Kendrick, The Weeknd, Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars winning, it was definitely a successful night. Of course, afterward people tend to discuss who deserved it more etc, but in the end, they are all successful artist who work hard. They love what they do and they put a lot into their albums and songs. Of course we like some songs better than others but it doesn’t give someone the right to say someone else deserves it more. Forget about your personal taste because they all embrace and express art in a different way and deserve respect for it. I was surprised that Meghan Trainor won though, but her tearful speech was cute. I would cry my heart out, as well. And about that speech that Taylor gave, she’s right and I’m glad she said what she said. I mean let’s be honest, Taylor Swift never needed someone like Kanye West to become famous. She already was. And I don’t think there is anyone else in the business who’s happier for other winners than she is. Being a sore loser is just not cool.

General statements

  • Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift are friendship goals.
  • Adele is a big competition when it comes to fangirling.
  • Why don’t the cameras show people’s exes during their performance? I mean, we all want to see that.
  • I’m glad that not a single artist got totally over-hyped during this show. Everyone did an awesome job.
  • When everyone in the audience stood up, Bruno Mars disappeared.
  • We all want to know why Rihanna really cancelled.
  • How long will it take for Kanye West to respond?
  • I feel like Meghan Trainor has been in the business for too long to count as a newcomer.
  • I shake my booty to Pitbull’s and Robin Thicke’s music, but they creep me out.
  • Sam Hunt is hot but shouldn’t wear suits that look like a red sock got accidentally mixed up with a white suit in the laundry.
  • Tyrese Gibson’s daughter must have had a great time sitting on Taylor Swift’s lap, watching a performance and taking pictures with her and Selena.
  • I’m surprised by what counts as rock music, nowadays.
