I am happy to say that I’ve read some pretty good books this year. I admit I got influenced a fair amount on Instagram but so far, I enjoyed the ones that were hyped. I’m gonna try not to spoil too much, but I would like to share the ones I highly recommend.
Matt Haig – The Midnight Library
Now here is a book that was certainly all over social media. And rightfully so. I was very intrigued by the title because I wasn’t sure what to expect. If you’re someone who loves to question all your life choices, this is a book you want to read. This book reminded me that we have the power to change things, that we should value what we have, and appreciate the little things. But also that choosing a different path isn’t a guarantee for anything. It’s ok to feel what we feel, no matter good or bad. And this book gave me all the feels.
Matt Haig – The Comfort Book
I really got into Matt Haig’s books, and I can’t wait to read them all. This one, in particular, made me feel really good and actually gave me lots of comfort. It’s full of short pieces that inspire me, make me think about a lot of different but important things, and I constantly go back to it. I wrote a whole post about it cause I just love it so much.
Taylor Jenkins Reid – Malibu Rising
This one certainly was all over Instagram this summer, and I joined the bandwagon. Just the cover alone looked lovely, and what can I say, it didn’t disappoint. It’s an easy read, but I was also excited about how it ends because of the constant suspense. I still want to know how the characters continued living their lives. There was something special about each and every one of them.
Stephenie Meyers – Midnight Sun
Oh boy, how I loved Twilight. What a crazy beautiful love story that was. When I found out that, after all these years, Stephenie Meyers published another book, I was sooo excited. And the moment I started reading, I was sucked right back in. I mean, it’s the same story, just from another perspective, but it was still a lovely experience. For every Twilight fan, a must-read.
Celeste Barber – Challenge Accepted
If you don’t know who Celeste Barber is, you’re missing out. From what I’ve seen, she’s truly one of a kind, and I would love to meet her someday. She’s hilarious, down-to-earth, and pretty honest. I love people who don’t take themselves too seriously, and she basically made a career out of that. The book is a fun read because she is a fun person. I loved learning more about her, and I think she’s a great role model and all.
Candice Carty-Williams – Queenie
I enjoyed this book a lot, and I was rooting for Queenie the whole time. It also made me pretty mad because it’s very educational on racism but not in a big in-your-face kind of way. It wasn’t anything I didn’t know before but still infuriating. It just shows you what to look out for, in what forms racism comes, how the ‘I’m not racist but…” shit works and all. Definitely a good read, with a main character, you just want to cheer on every step of the way.
Celeste Ng – Little Fires Everywhere
I think I watched the TV show before I read the book, which is usually a good way to go. Although, I must say that both were really good. Anyway, I think it’s a really interesting story with great characters who all have something about them. You just want to look behind their facades and learn what these people are really about. I was pretty much excited the whole time.
