The Fall Tag

Since I was a little over all the tags floating around the blogosphere, I just thought, I’ll put together my own little fall tag. There are no rules for this one, just answer the questions and have fun. Of course you can tag other bloggers, if you want to. And of course you can call it autumn, if you like.

I tag the lovely Kristina from Royal Lifestyle by Honey, Tina from Tea is for Tina, Aoife from Pretty Purple Polka Dots, Megan from Reflections and Ramblings and Kaitlin from Leviosa not Leviosa. I’m looking forward to reading their answers.

The Fall Tag

01. What is favorite thing about fall?
I absolutely love, when the leaves change colors and it always puts a smile on my face, when I drive by colorful trees. I love a good fall wardrobe and I definitely feel less bad for spending lots of time inside my room. Cozy days and nights are the best. And I can whip out my beloved hot water bottle.

02. What do you dislike about fall?
When it gets colder, my skin gets really dry, especially on my hands, which can hurt pretty bad. I don’t like when it’s too cold for my fall wardrobe and I’m not a fan of pumpkin spice anything, but other than that, I pretty much love it all.

03. How does your perfect day/night in on a cold and rainy day look like?
I definitely start with sleeping in, have maybe a yummy croissant and a big cup of tea for breakfast, watch some cartoons and then spend the afternoon writing, reading, scrapbooking, maybe doing a puzzle and of course watch movies or TV shows. I do most of that in bed, on my floor or nowadays in my beautiful armchair, always wrapped in a blanket, cause it’s pretty cold in my basement room.

04. Do you have any fall traditions?
I don’t think I do. Maybe collecting chestnuts and acorns, even though I have no use for them. They’re just so pretty. Occasionally, I carve a pumpkin, which I definitely want to do, this year. I even bought myself a whole kit.

05. What is your favorite fall color?
You know those red maple trees? That red is just the most beautiful color ever and seeing it always makes me really happy and I have to take a picture, every time. I absolutely hate mustard yellow, though.

Red maple

06. What is your go-to fall drink?
I have this thing, where I don’t really like to drink hot drinks when it’s warm, but when it cools off in fall, I drink lots of tea. Mostly black tea.

07. Every season has a soundtrack. Name your favorite three songs for fall.
The Common Linnets – Calm After The Storm
Ryan Adams – Wonderwall
Ed Sheeran – I See Fire

08. Do you celebrate Thanksgiving? If yes, how?
Unfortunately, it’s not really a popular holiday in Germany, because I think it’s lovely to come together, eat lots and lots of food and share what you are thankful for. If I ever get my own place, I’d love to do a Friendsgiving. Or maybe I’ll be lucky enough to experience one in the US again, cause that’s the best. I’ve been a part of one in 2014, and I really loved it.

09. What is your go-to fall outfit?
I’m honestly really good with my fall wardrobe. I usually wear basic black leggings, a black long shirt and switch around all my cardigans. Boots, a fake leather jacket, maybe a scarf and a beanie and I’m good to go. I honestly have no problems dressing for the season and I always feel pretty comfortable.

10. Finally, share a beautiful fall picture.

Being a Godmother

Almost eight years ago, I was asked to be a godmother, for the first time. My uncle got married and became a father later on in life, so I was actually old enough to take on this important and meaningful role. I remember telling my mom that I would be so disappointed if they picked her over me, cause she definitely was too old. (Yes, I told her to her face.) and I just really wanted it. I don’t know, I just think that being a godmother is the absolute best job for me. Cause even though I don’t really see myself having my own children, I love those, who I can give back, at the end of the day.

So what does this mean to me? Everything! The fact that someone trusts me with their child, if, God forbid, anything ever happened to them, is just one of the greatest compliments anyone could ever give me. It is one of the greatest honors of life and yes, also a huge responsibility, but one, I’m happily taking.

My godson turns eight in December, which is just unbelievable. They just grow up too fast. But from the first time I held him, I was madly in love and I’m really glad that we developed a great relationship, over the years. Although I have to admit, the older they get, the harder it is to find common grounds. He is a boy, after all. But still, we’re close and I really hope, it will forever stay like this.

We’ve had lots of fun sleepovers, were we usually just eat a ton of junk food and watch movies. We love the same TV shows like Phineas and Ferb or Scooby Doo, which just shows you how perfect I am for the job. I may be 30 on paper, but my inner child is pretty present. We have shared so many laughs together and I wish, I had every single one of them on tape, cause there is nothing cuter than the sound of a child laughing. I remember the special feeling, when he started saying my name, or when he fell asleep in my arms, while we danced at his parents’ wedding, it was just the cutest thing.

When I was away as an au pair, I went home for Christmas and he didn’t believe anyone, who told him. He was like nope, she’s in America. Can you believe how thrilled he was, when I actually showed up?! Apparently, he jumped up and down, saying my name a lot, when he saw me getting out of the car. And when he was standing in front of me, he was silent and couldn’t believe his eyes. It was the cutest thing. He still gives me kisses, he listens to me and doesn’t love me any less for being strict. These are just a few things to describe our relationship. I just really live for this role.

This is why I was so happy to find out that I will be godmother for the second time. One of my absolute best friends in the whole world asked me with a letter that was written by her baby and I was beyond thrilled and of course cried. So now that my first one has reached an age, where it gets more and more difficult to find things he’s interested in, I’m getting a brand new one. Also a boy, but I got quite the experience with them. I’m just really looking forward to meeting the little guy and I know it’s just gonna be wonderful. I really hope that we’ll create a strong bond and lots of great memories together.

So I’m really looking forward to more years of being a godmother and I’m honestly pretty sure that two will not be my final number. And who knows, maybe someone will give me a girl in the future? But for now, I’m just honored, excited and looking forward to every second with the boy, who will soon be in my life. I can buy presents again that still make an impression on a kid. Once they have everything and only care about video games or their friends, it’s pretty much over. However, I always do my best to keep the kids happy, so this one can totally consider himself lucky.

fall.

The earth changes colors
Red. Orange. Yellow.
Leaves crunching beneath my feet
Crisp air touches my face

Sunshine, raindrops, misty mornings
The last chirps can be heard
Fresh air fills my lungs

Hot tea, warm blankets
Cozy nights
Kissing summer goodbye

Chestnuts and acorns
In everyone’s pockets
Painted leaves
Pressed between pages

Touched by the light
Trees colorfully shine
Branches swaying in the wind
A leaf falls, then two, then three
Nature is a whole new place

Fall impressions

Goodbye September 2018

Goodbye September,

and hello super fall month October. Is everyone already busy carving pumpkins and watching Halloween movies? I watched Casper on Monday and loved every second of it. I’ve already seen lots of people put up their decorations and it’s great. Since I don’t have my own place, I don’t really decorate myself, but my time will come to put up all the ghosts, bats and jack-o-laterns on the planet.

I just love fall so much, I don’t even really have a problem with the weather. I wouldn’t mind it getting a tiny bit warmer, though. Going from super summer to freezing winter just isn’t right. We all deserve to wear our in-between jackets. But otherwise, it’s just perfect for cozy days inside. We all know that I’m not much of an outside person, anyway.

So last month, a lot was going on. I feel like I was super active, although that may only be my personal perception playing tricks on me. It started with a trip to amusement park, which was super fun, as always. However, I sometimes do feel like I’m getting too old for it. Not because I don’t love it, but because some attractions just don’t work very well for me, anymore. I sound like 80.

Another highlight was going gliding. I wrote a story about the experience for work, which was pretty cool and it’s just a perk of being a journalist who can choose her own topics. The people were super nice and I had a lot of fun. It was pretty cool seeing everything from above. When you drive around by car, you really don’t even see half of it. It’s truly a unique experience. To be honest though, I’m still glad I didn’t throw up, cause my body wasn’t having it anymore, at some point. Apparently that’s normal when you’re not used to it. But yay for the experience. That reminds me, I still have to go skydiving, but I’m doing that next year.

Gliding

Furthermore, I had a lot of doctor’s appointments for different problems. But what I know now is that apparently, I’m fructose intolerant, which is kinda annoying but not the end of the world. I’m not gonna go into detail cause I haven’t figured it all out yet and I’m also gonna write a separate post about it. But in case you know a lot about it, please comment. I would love to chat with someone who knows what’s going on.

Since I took a two week leave from work, I had a lot of extra time to just do things I love and there are many things that made me happy in September. I went to a hair dresser (it’s been three years) and chopped off my super long hair. I’m also a bit of a redhead now. I just needed a change. I visited both of my grandmas, went shopping with one of my besties, had breakfast with friends, did a lot of scrapbooking, which I am super happy about, enjoyed a swap party and just more smaller things that always give me so much joy.

But the best thing that happened this month? One of my absolute best friends in the whole world asked me to be the godmother of her baby and I am still soooo incredibly happy. I cried when I found out and it’s just the greatest honor. It will be my second godchild and I can’t wait to greet the little man. Yes, I’m having another boy, but I know, I will love him to the moon and back. I can’t wait to spoil him with love and of course the best presents.

So it was really a good month and that makes me very happy. Unfortunately, I had to go back to work today, but at least the weekend is close and it’s going to be a relaxing one.

Watch all the Halloween movies. When it’s cold and rainy outside, put on your comfy clothes, make some tea, and cuddle up in bed or on your sofa. Resume a beloved hobby. Make time for those who mean the world to you. Enjoy all the spookiness. And have a woderful October.

Tons of love,
Hailey
