A Love Letter to Disney

Dear Disney,

with this love letter I want to thank you for everything you have given me and the rest of the world. You bring so much joy and happiness to millions of people all across the globe that I wouldn’t even want to imagine how life without you would be.

I grew up with you. I spent my childhood with you and I chose to keep you in my life, even as an adult. You are not just for kids, you were made for every person who believes in powerful entertainment, enchanting music and characters that feel like friends. Your purpose is to spread joy and every person can use some of it, no matter what age.

When I was a little girl, my uncle gave me a video tape that had The Beauty and The Beast on it. Until today, it is my favorite Disney movie and it started my deep love for all of it. The first time I went to a movie theater, I watched Aladdin with my Grandma and the first English film I ever watched was The Lion King. From a very young age, Disney has been there and I am very happy about this because I do feel that there was always a lot to learn from everything I saw. And even if not, the movies always had the power to make me happy.

I feel like the older I got, the more I grew to love you. My visits to Disneyland are some of my most cherished memories and I will go as often as possible until I grow old. After all, it’s the happiest place on earth and I absolutely agree with that. For all those days I can’t spend there, I’ve always had my own little Disneyland at home. Surrounded by characters that have made me laugh and cry so many times, surrounded by sounds from your movies and surrounded by the feeling that I can grow up and still keep a part of being a child inside of me, forever.

I’m not going to lie, you cost me a lot of hard-earned money but to me, it’s worth every penny. Everytime I can add a new movie to my DVD collection or a new stuffed animal to my crowd of Disney pals, it makes me happy. When I see Dumbo waiting for me when  I go to bed, when I take my Lion King Lunchbox full of yummy things with me, when I write down some notes with my Minnie Mouse pen, it makes me happy.

Furthermore, thank you for providing me with topics for several papers and presentations during my time at university and for giving one of my teachers the material, to give one of the greatest classes I have ever taken. I learned so much more about your history, your power, your meaning and I started obsessing, even more. Your lessons are important, your history inspiring and your world will fascinate me, as long as I live.

As I write this, I am wearing Bambi pajamas and I am listening to the beautiful Pocahontas soundtrack, the first CD I ever bought. I am thinking about which movie I want to watch next and which ones are still missing in my collection. I’m thinking about how I can visit Disneyland again, anytime soon. And most of all, I’m thinking of everything that I connect to Disney and realize the smile I have on my face. Yes, this might be cheesy but that’s ok. Whatever makes you happy is ok and Disney never fails to do exactly that – make people happy.

Love always,

The little girl that will forever be inside of me

Mixtape #10 – Hip Hop

Mixtape #10 Hip HopMy tenth mixtape will give you a list of hip hop music. If you have a great sound system in your car, it’s definitely the best music to blast from your speakers. The beats are just unbeatable. That reminds me, I really need to put these songs into my car again. You’ll find some new songs and a lot of old school hip hop because, let’s be honest, it’s so much better.

A little sidenote for those of you who feel like criticizing this music for it’s seemingly offensive lyrics: Please educate yourself on the history of rap and learn something about the language of it. I wrote a paper about it once and it’s just super interesting. Personally, I’ve never felt offended because I view music as a form of artistic expression and don’t take it personal, but in case you do, I’m sure you’ll feel a little different, afterward.

That Moment When A Beloved TV Show Ends

TV showsAnyone who is a TV-junkie like me knows the feeling I am talking about. You find a new show and start watching it. You invest hours and hours of getting to know everyone and at some point, you just feel like the greatest expert in the world. You get attached. You get emotional. You laugh and cry with every single character because you feel what they feel. As crazy as it sounds, you become one of them.

I know that I don’t live on a TV-show but that doesn’t mean I haven’t wished for it for a million times. When I think of all the productions I’ve watched from start to finish though, I couldn’t even decide in which one I would love to live the most. They were all great, but you live in the moment you watch it and when it comes to the end, it’s just over.

How many final episode weddings, move-aways, deaths and other scenarios did we see? I saw so many, I can’t even count them. I feel like weddings are the most popular way to end a show. It makes you say goodbye on a good note and you’re happy for the characters. But with every final scene, you always hope that sometime, there will be a sequel that will show what everyone has reached in life, if they were successful, if they stayed together, if they ever lived all of their dreams they talked about season after season.

I want to know how Seth and Summer ended up, because let’s be honest, they were our favorite couple. I want to know how Monica and Chandler managed to raise twins and how baby Emma looks as a teenager. I want to know what happened to Jax’s boys, after he was killed. Are Chuck and Blair still together? Did Ally McBeal ever find the one for her? I feel like all these questions will never get answered, although I do have a little hope, since a lot of shows are getting a remake.

To be honest, I think remakes are great. When I hear that one of my favorite shows will continue, I get excited but I’m also aware of the fact that it will never be the same. You already know too much and you hold on to the past. Yes, sure it’s nice to watch Fuller House and see how the girls have grown up. But is it the same? No, it’s not. I catch myself being very critical because the storylines are usually full of plot holes, which only leave more unanswered questions. And in most cases, there is always at least one original cast member missing, which just makes it all different.

A sequel can’t give us back the moment we meet these people for the first time. We don’t feel as a part of the whole show anymore because we’ve outgrown it. Sure, we still watch and love it, but it’s different and when it ends for the second time, it’s definitely not as bad as the first time we had to say goodbye. Man, I sound like a freak who lost track of reality, but my fellow junkies know exactly that this is just how it is. The bonding is real and that’s what makes a show great. If it pulls you in, if it makes you tune in every week, if it makes you feel like the characters are your best friends, then it’s a good show.

PS:  I don’t want Pretty Little Liars to end!

PPS: If you’re looking for me, I’m in my bed binge-watching Orange Is The New Black.

Blogger Awards

Blogger Awards
My blog The Undateable Girl’s Diary has been nominated for the Blogger Award by the lovely Nickki from Keeping up with Coco, who also hosts an awesome chat every Tuesday at 8:00 pm EST. Use the hashtag #USbloggers and join her and other bloggers to meet and chat. I was super happy when I found out she tagged me because it means that someone read my blog and remembered it. So thanks girl! I will answer the five questions Nickki chose and tag ten other bloggers who will hopefully answer mine. I’m looking forward to getting to know all of you better. Let me know when you publish your post because I really want to read your answers. And of course, I will retweet you. Have fun!

Rules

☞ Tag the blogger that nominated you!
☞ Answer the questions you were given!
☞ Nominate ten bloggers!
☞ Create new questions for your nominees to answer!
☞ Inform the bloggers you chose that they have been nominated!

My Answers

1. Do you have a dream event you would love to attend as a blogger? What is it and why do you want to attend?
I’ve always dreamed of attending an award show, not just as a blogger. It would definitely be cool to cover an event like that with actually being there and not just to write about what I see on TV. I’d also love a backstage peek at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show because well, it’s the VS fashion show and everything is pink. I’d also love to wear a pink satin robe and some wings. I’d even attend and report for free.

2. What’s your favorite thing about blogging?
From a very young age, writing has always been my way of therapy. When something bothered me, I just wrote about it and it made me feel better. It helps me to work through things. I can blog about whatever I feel like writing about and it’s my own little space that only belongs to me. I can share things with a lot of people and even if I only inspire one single person, it’s already an accomplishment.

3. Do you have any photography tips for other bloggers?
Take your own pictures. If I find a blog or Instagram that uses mainly other people’s pics, I don’t follow. And make sure the picture matches your content. I don’t care if it’s pretty or not, it should just be a good fit. Also, I think flat-lays are overrated. Oh, and Photoshop is my bestie for life.

4. What is your favorite social media to be on and post on?
I signed up on Twitter in 2009 and have been addicted, ever since. My new-found friend at universiy and I were bored in class so we signed up and it was awesome. I’m a very personal tweeter and I love to meet others who are too. I wish I had discovered Twitter-chats earlier, though. I missed out on so much but now, I’m totally on board. I interact with others a lot more and also gained lovely new followers.

5. Do you have a blogging bestie? How did you meet?
I would say it’s my friend from Smilosopher. I’ve known her since school and she is a great support when it comes to my blogging. She always has great advice, an open ear and comments on my stuff, shares my content on Facebook etc. I wish more of my friends would do it but most of them just don’t get it. They are not so familiar with blogging and they obviously don’t get what it means to me. I stopped explaining because whatever. Lady Smee tells me when a link doesn’t work, when something is good, asks me if we want to write something together etc. I wish she was on Twitter. You guys would love her.

I nominate

A Spoonful of Sugars
Sapphire Moon
Smilosopher
Elephanterra
Teatime With Naomi
Velvet and Vibranium
About Little Things
My Return Ticket
Hollie Louise Does Lifestyle, Fashion and FPL
Life + Love

My 5 questions

1. If money wasn’t an issue, how would your dream vacation look like?
2. Do you pressure yourself into writing blog posts because of a schedule etc. or do you just write and post when you feel like it?
3. If you could be one TV character, who would you be and why?
4. From all the posts you’ve written, share the one that means most to you and explain w.
5. If you had a super power, which one would it be?

I hope you have fun reading my answers and answering my questions. Spread the blog love!
