Questionnaire #2

1. What would you bring to a deserted island (3 things)?
I think this is always a difficult question and hopefully, I will never have to really decide. I mean, who can live with only 3 things??? But if I had to choose, I would definitely take my bff. I would not leave her a choice! We would have a blast and she could take 3 more things that might be useful. :) I would take music because what would life be without music?! Who wouldn’t like a 24/7 beach party with your bff. Thinking about it now, it doesn’t sound too bad, after all. And finally, I would take a camera. Since I expect to come back home someday, I really want to have all these memories on camera. I can see the pictures in front of me, already. And since my bff coud take three things, as well, I’d hope she’d take something to read, something to write and a comfy bed that we could place on the beach. I’m totally gonna talk to her about this idea. ;)

2. What is your favorite ice cream flavour?
Lemon and chocolate. I really don’t like trying out new flavors. When it comes to ice cream, I always want the same and I’m always disappointed when they don’t have it. Sometimes, I add raspberry or walnut, or cotton candy. You definitely can’t satisfy me with vanilla or strawberry. I don’t know why but it’s just not for me. Chocolate ice cream with fresh strawberries tastes really awesome, though. But I have to admit, on hot days like this, almost every ice cream flavour tastes good.

3. What is your favorite quote/saying?
Never regret something that once made you smile!
I know that it is often not such an easy thing to do, but there is a lot of truth in it. If there is a bad relationship, you regret having wasted time with the other person. But there are reasons why this relationship existed in the first place – reasons that probably made you smile. If there is something that is completely awful, then regret it. But if there is something, even the tiniest bit, that made you smile, it is something that you shouldn’t regret. No, I don’t think there is something positive in everything, but a smile should never be regretted.

4. What was your first cd?
It was the Pocahontas soundtrack and I bought it myself. I remember being at the PX with my dad and my brother and I wanted to buy two cd’s. But then, I saw a little dog figure that I wanted to buy for my mom, so I put one cd back. Of course, I bought the Pocahontas cd. Disney always wins. It is one of my favorite movies and one of the best Disney soundtracks. I love to listen to it and I used to sing ‘Colors of the wind’ over and over again, when I was a child. It’s message is beautiful!

You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You’ll learn things you never knew, you never knew

5. What are you afraid of?
Some people say that I always seem so strong, tough and confident and that they don’t believe me to be afraid of anything. Well, they are wrong – Spiders! I have to admit, I did work on my fear of spiders, over the years. I have a basement room and always have to deal with this problem. After all these years tough, I get so mad when I see one that I just want to kill it, instead of starting to scream and waiting for someone to come. Being alone outside in the middle of the night. I think most girls don’t feel too comfortable being outside in the middle of the night. Seriously, there so many sick people out there. You never know what or who is waiting just around the corner. And overall, I’m just a very paranoid person. Horror movies are horrible. Don’t try to watch a horror movie with me, if you want to sleep. Not gonna happen!!! And then there are sharks. When I see them on tv, I get a really strange feeling, every time. One of the reasons I’m not such a huge fan of oceans. And don’t even get me started on exams. I’ve been working on this for years now, but it has only gotten a little better. It always depends.

6. What are you currently doing?
Currently, I’m a student at the University of Mainz but I just finished all my classes and now, I’m enjoying my free time. Everyone expects me to be sad or afraid, but actually, I’m really happy that’s it’s almost over. And I’m really looking forward to writing my MA-thesis and finally get my master’s degree in American Studies.  But for now, I have a lot of free time, since I don’t have a new job, yet, and I am enjoying it, very much.

7. What are your plans for the future?
First of all, I have to write my MA-thesis and get my master’s degree. If everything works out as planned, I will be done with everything in spring 2014. Then, I will enjoy my summer and fly to the States in fall, in order to work as an AuPair. What happens after that, time will show. I always wanted to become a journalist but I know that it won’t be easy. I still hope to meet the right people somewhere that will offer me a chance. I’d prefer something in the US because I never planned on staying in Germany. I would also love to write and publish books or become professional blogger. I guess, everything that involves writing is the right thing for me. But I don’t want to be too narrow-minded. I just want to find out what life has to offer and maybe, something is good is waiting for me, somewhere. Who knows?! Maybe at some point, luck will finally find me and reward me for my hard work.

8. What is your favorite book?
How am I supposed to answer this question? There are just sooo many books that I love. I’ve been a bookworm, all my life and I pity every person who doesn’t read. You are missing out on sooooo many wonderful written words! Sometimes, it’s just the best thing in the world, to dive into another world and meet interesting characters. Without books, there would definitely be something missing in my life. But what is my favorite? It’s called Mondscheintarif and was written my Ildikó von Kürthy. It’s about a woman in her thirties, who waits for a guy to call her after a date. What I love most about this book and all her other books, is the fact that every woman can relate to the main characters. Ildikó von Kürthy writes with such great humor that I always have to laugh, really hard. It was translated into 30 languages, so maybe, you’ll find it in yours.

9. What is your favorite movie?
I really don’t think that I can answer this question with only one answer. I really have to name at least five. Although, if someone would force me to name only one, I’d probably say Dirty Dancing. So cliché. ;) It used to be my mothers favorite movie, as well. She probably was the one who made me watch it for the first time and I loved it, from the start. The music, the dancing , the whole story…I don’t know many women who wouldn’t agree.

Aside from that, I have to name Cruel Intentions, The Beauty and the Beast, Clueless, 10 Things I hate about you, Pocahontas and The Nightmare before Christmas.

10. If you could turn back time, would you do something differently?
Well, probably not. I mean, I often look at photos and think: What the hell am I wearing? ;) But aside from that, I can truly say that I was always the person who I wanted to be. And believe me when I say that I know how hard it is to be yourself. Fitting in is always the easiest way, but in my opinion, it is the wrong way. I still have to deal with people who don’t want to accept me the way I am and I let them. If people don’t like me for who I am then I don’t need them. Nobody needs such people. We all have made some mistakes but gladly, I can say that mine were pretty minor. So no, I can’t think of anything big that I would do differently.

Photography: Wildlife and Amusement Park

I can’t say it often enough: Summer break is here! :) I’m back at home and never have to go to university, again. And what is the best way to start off? Grab a friend and have fun. Yesterday, we went to a wildlife and amusement park and we had a great time. It was not a huge park, but still, there were some great things to do. And we had the perfect weather to get soaking wet on the water roller coaster. So, here are some pictures from our great day.

Rihanna – Diamonds World Tour

Oh boy, I really don’t have any time for blogging, right now. It’s the end of the semester and I should tie myself to my desk, until it’s over. 3 more weeks to go and I can’t wait.

But in between stressful studying, I experienced a real highlight. Last week, mom and me went to see Rihanna, again. I have to admit, we weren’t quite sure wat to expect, because her last concert wasn’t really such a hit. She kept her fans waiting, didn’t seem motivated and overall, it was really a little strange. But gladly, this time it was absolutely awesome. She came, she rocked and gave it her all. She smiled, she partied and she put up a great show that was worth all its money. The next time she is on tour, I will definitely be there, cheering for her.

I have to admit, I had hoped for David Guetta to open the show, but we had GTA. Still, it was great and the whole crows was partying and enjoying it all. No boooos like last time. And if this time, it hadn’t been as good as it was, we would have had enough fun watching the people around us. There are just some things that I don’t get. Why do parents let their children in such a concert? I saw girl, they didn’t even look like 10. I mean, they speak German and I’m not even sure if these kids understand the lyrics. And if they do, what parent want their kids to understand those lyrics? I mean, I love her songs, but they are really ummm…sexual? wild? sexy? And her show, too. Nothing I would take my kids to see And their parents are sitting next to them. I really don’t know why. And then, all these wannabe-Rihannas. Ladies, you’re not Rihanna and not everyone can wear what Rihanna wears. I’ve seen outfits…oh boy I mean, seriously. There is something great to wear for every body-type. Dont try to dress like Rihanna. And the best thing I heard:” Well, she could have played more famous songs. I’m still not so familiar with her new album.” Those people, I want to punch. GO BUY THE DAMN CD AND LISTEN TO IT BEFORE YOU GO TO A CONCERT! How stupid can someone be? And she DID sing many famous hits. Gladly, my two most favorite songs in the world, as well. WE FOUND LOVE and parts of LOVE THE WAY YOU LIE. It makes me cry, every time. This time as well and I love her for that.

Overall, it was absolutely amazing and my mom and me had a lot of fun. I’m glad that we gave her a second chance. After all, she is my favorite artist and her music is just great!

Note from my mom: Dear Rihanna, your hair looked too nice. Cut your hair and look like the sexy vamp that you present on stage with what you sing, what you wear and how you act!

So typical!

I found an essay that I wrote for one of my classes back in high school. It was titled: “How do I know that I’m not a man?” and it was full of clichés. It was the topic, though. What is “typical female” and “typical male.” Now, I’m thinking about how stupid these clichés are. I mean yes, they develop because there is always a little truth in them, but you cannot generalize it. And at some time, you might fulfill many of them and a few years later, you are a completely different person. The essay began like this:

Many of my features show pretty clearly that I’m not a man. Often enough, I’m declared to be “typical female.” It begins with me spending a lot of time in my bathroom when the day begins. Shower, make-up, styling… I could stay in there for hours. I could never live without any of it. Taking care of myself is really important.

Haha, I was a picture-perfect Barbie-doll. Always a little too much. Nowadays I’m thinking: why did I have all this time to get ready? I mean, I wrote that in school. My bus came at like 6:30 in the morning or so. Today, I definitely need a lot less time. I can apply my make-up in 10 minutes, if I have to. A few years ago, I would have never left the house without being perfectly styled from head to toe. I would have never even taken out the trash without looking perfect. Today, I go outside looking like trash. ;) But I think this isn’t merely “typical female” anymore, when women spend a lot of time getting ready. There are probably many guys today, who need a lot more time to get ready, than I do. Over the years it totally became a male thing, too. I bet that many of them even have more products than some of us ladies.

Furthermore, I’m a fashion junkie and a shopaholic. When I go shopping, it takes hours until I find everything I need or not need. I could go shopping everyday which is definitely visible inside my closet. While men go shopping because they need something in particular, it is what I hate the most. I never find something when I really need it. Even worse, I always assume that I might find something better, once I did find something. I simply don’t take the first pick. At least not immediately. You never know what else there is, right? I doubt that men do this. They see something, buy it and go home. What else doesn’t happen to men, is realizing that what you bought, is the wrong size. You try everything on at home and once in a while, an item is too small. But we’re women. Sometimes, us women just don’t want to admit that we need a bigger size. We’ve all been there. ;) Even worse, sometimes, we don’t even like the items that we bought. We were just so full of shopping-adrenaline that we simply wanted to buy everything. I still have some things in my closet that I will never wear. And when it comes to shoes, men have three pair, I have fifty.

I think, a lot of guys like to shop. They may be a little easier to shop with than us women, but it’s not always look-store-buy-go home. No, they look in more than one store, try on different things and need more time than an hour. And I definitely enjoyed shopping much more when I was in high school. I mean, don’t get me wrong. Most women love to shop. But I think it’s really exhausting. My back aches, often enough I’m frustrated and I became a huge fan of online shopping. I don’t go shopping that often but somehow, the amount of clothes I own majorly increased. I have two closets with three doors each. And an additional clothes rail. That is all for the clothes that I still want to keep. I have at least another closet full of clothes that I’m trying to sell or give away. Every time, I sort out my closets, I take out a lot, but you never really see a change. I love clothes. Always have, always will. But still, I don’t need shopping everyday. At least not for hours. But if someone would offer me a shopping trip right now, I would definitely say yes. I haven’t been to fashion stores in a while. I really have to save my money until I have a new job. It sucks big time, but it’s not like I don’t have enough clothes. ;) And I stopped buying things that I don’t really like or that don’t fit. At least for the most part. But instead of buying clothes too small, I sometimes buy them too big. I try not to. And I do have a few pair of shoes, but I don’t constantly buy shoes. I can leave shoes behind. Handbags, too. So here, I don’t fulfill a cliché. :)

And then there is parking. I’m gonna admit it: definitely not my speciality. There are moment when I really hope that no man saw me trying to park my car.

There was this one time when me and two of my friends drove to the zoo. There were so many people that all the official parking lots were full. It took us forever to find a little spot where my car would fit into. We did, but it took us at least twenty minutes to get the car parked. My bff made it and boy were we relieved. I’m really not gonna go into detail but it was horrible and funny at the same time. To our defense, we had to park sideways, there was the curb, not much space, no power assisted steering, no beeping and it was really hot. :D But yes, most guys I know are really good at parking and they would have probably parked that car in less than a minute. Although, I would love to test that. That was a really tricky situation. And there are some women too, who can park really good. My mom can probably park anywhere, even blindfolded. I wish, I was that good.

What is also typical for me and for many other women is how much we talk. I can definitely talk for hours without a break. Especially on the phone. And what man likes to talk on the phone? Sometimes, I talk so much that even my mom doesn’t want to listen to me, forever. And definitely not my boyfriend. I just can’t understand how many men can live through the day with a very small amount of words.

I think my brother is the exception. He’s on the phone all day. Besides him, I never met a guy who likes to talk on the phone. I hate it. And just for the record, I don’t have that boyfriend anymore. He really wasn’t a fan of talking on the phone. But I know that I talk extremely much. And sometimes much too fast. I sometimes even forget to breathe. I think this is definitely something that is considered to be “typical female.”

There is so much more that is “typical female” about me. I tend to overreact. I really let little things get to me and then it turns into this huge bomb that explodes. (Me being the bomb!) Guess how much my boyfriend likes this! ;) Then, I’m a very creative person. I could do crafting for hours. I give my room make-overs, I decorate and so on. Show me one man who is able to cut a straight line with a scissor. Haven’t seen one, yet. And when it comes to presents, I often had to find out how un-creative guys are. Furthermore, I’m very emotional and I scream or cry whenever I feel like it. You don’t see men do that pretty often.

And then, I go on listing a few male characteristics that can be associated with me. I mean yeah, sometimes, all these clichés fit but there are always exceptions and I think being “typical female” or “typical male” is so boring. I’m glad that I’m not that typical girly girl anymore. I’m glad that men discovered that it’s totally ok to me metrosexual. Stereotypes can be so right and so wrong. Either way, it should not be something that should be taken too seriously. I could list a lot of things that would be considered “typical male” and still, I am a woman. And I’m glad to be one. One that doesn’t care what is expected of her because of stereotypes. One that always was and always will be herself. And if tomorrow, I decide to hate pink, stop wearing make-up and give away all my clothes, I will probably still be a woman. Just different but not necessarily less woman. (Yeah, as if that will EVER happen. ;) )

Photography: Bird and Monkey Park

Last summer, I visited a bird and monkey park with my Grandma. I used to go there a lot when I was a child and I wanted to see how it looks, today. Pretty much the same. They still have the same old attractions I used to have so much fun with, as a child. We had a great day and my Grandma was really happy. They still have mostly birds, an outdoor enclosure for monkeys and some other cute animals. You can also feed many of them, which I, of course, did.
