Tuesday, I went to the mall with my mom. We were just randomly roaming around, not looking for anything special. I came across several men sections and for the most part, all I said was “reason for breakup” over and over again, pointing at all kinds of clothes. Some clothes, I just can’t bear. I know, here comes superficial me again, but at least, I’m being honest. And yes, I am also aware of the fact that this won’t increase my chances on finding a guy for me, but oh well. I’ve forgotten about my own standards so many times, and it didn’t work out, so I might as well stick to them. And I bet, every guy has some things that he does not like on a girl, as well. Here are my personal rules, no-go’s etc. for what guys should wear.
Rule #1: KEEP IT SIMPLE!
What I find attractive is pretty similar to what I wear myself. Especially when it comes to colors. I want a man in blue jeans (NO skinny jeans!!!), white, grey or black shirt, sneakers. Very simple. The shirt can have some print on it but nothing with rhinestones, or patches or whatsoever. And I admit, I’m not such a huge fan of color. Ok, I won’t say anything if you decide to wear a blue or red shirt. If it suits you, ok. But please, don’t wear yellow or orange when you’re white as a wall. And if you’re a beanie, cap whatever kind of person (no, doesn’t work for everyone!) PLEASE wear it. I will marry you, right away. ;)
Note for my future boyfriend: If you have Ed Hardy, Camp David or anything similar in your closet, you can be sure that I will secretly remove these items and burn them.
Rule #2: FIND YOUR STYLE AND STICK TO IT!
I’ve seen it all before. The moment guys try to experiment, it goes wrong in 95% of the cases. You know, you can’t just go from sporty to hipster and think you can get away with it. Find your style and stick to it, no matter what fashion tells you. Not every style can be applied to every person.
Rule #3: BUY A BLACK SHIRT!
I don’t know what it is, but when I see a man in a black, long-sleeved, button-down shirt, I’m immediately attracted. Sure, I won’t fall in love with every guy that wears one, but every guy should really own one. I just think that it makes you look more handsome. Works for EVERY male person!
And of course, I wouldn’t be me, if I didn’t have any no-go’s. Some things, I just can’t stand seeing on a man. Some items can make the most handsome man look less attractive. Yes, I am that superficial. There are just some things that I can’t ignore.
NO-GOs
1. those stupid girly scarfs that look like you stole them from your sister
2. hip bags
3. glitter, rhinestones, patches, visible stitches on your pants etc.
4. white pants
5. huge V-neck when there is no chest to match
6. wearing flip-flops when your feet look like they belong to a hobbit
7. button-down shirts with short sleeves
8. too short shorts
9. mustard (it’s like the worst color ever!)
10. jewelry (except a watch)
I could probably think of more, but these are the most important ones to mention. I know, I can’t tell all men what to wear and everyone should decide for themselves what they like, but I really wish, I could. And I also know that not all men will like what I wear. But I’m pretty sure that every person has certain perceptions of what looks good on others. And of course, I want a man next to me, that matches. From experience, it definitely doesn’t always work that way, but I can at least hope for it, right? ;) Oh, and btw, if I should name one role model that guys should definitely look at, it would be DAVID BECKHAM. He is one of the sexiest guys on the planet and he has a really great style. And I’m not saying this because it’s Becks. If I would see him in white pants, a glitter shirt and a stupid scarf, I would criticize him, as well.
