Mixtape #26 – Late 90s/Early 00s Rock/Punk Music

Mixtape #26 90s00s Rock-Punk

If you ask me which of my playlist on Spotify is my favorite, I would have to say the one with lots and lots of rock and punk music from the late 90s/early 00s. Seriously, that was the best. When I have a long drive and don’t have the dog in my car, I crank up the volume and rock out the whole time. I also sing from the top of my lungs and realize how much I miss being on a stage, just rocking out. I used to do that in school here and there, but not anymore. But in my heart, I will always be a little rock’n’roll queen. (See what I did there?!)

Photography: Ostfriesland – North Sea

I love going on vacation. The excitement of exploring a place I’ve never been to before, gives me so much joy. And of course, I always make sure to take my camera. I want to document as much as possible, and I also need the images to create some beautiful pages for my scrapbook.

So last month, I finally went on a little vacation with my mom and dog. We weren’t comfortable with flying or anything, so we stayed in Germany and went to the North Sea. We stayed in an apartment in a place by the ocean called Norddeich. It’s really not very big, but I completely fell in love and definitely want to go back next year. I was so relaxed, enjoyed the water, the air, the mudflats, and just the whole scenery.

We also took a few trips to other places. A day trip to a town called Greetsiel, and on the way there, we stopped at a famous lighthouse in Pilsum. The castle garden in Lütetsburg was one of our destinations, as well. Although I have to admit, we didn’t stay there very long and only saw a small part of it. And then, one day, we took the ferry to the island of Norderney. All of these places are located in the region called Ostfriesland (East Frisia).

So I will show you photos from all of these places and hope you enjoy them. They will probably make me a bit sad cause this vacation somehow just really got to me, and I miss being there so much. I even thought about moving there. I really fell in love with Norddeich.

The Post-Vacation-Blues

5

Taking a break from everyday life, going on adventures, exploring new places… That, for me, is a fun vacation. But unfortunately, at some point, they must always come to an end.

I know people who are very happy to be back home from a vacation. I even know a person who hates going on a proper vacation so much that when he is forced, complains the whole time cause he wants to go home. When I come home after a fun vacation, I fall into a hole, feel miserable, and cry a lot. I call it the post-travel-blues.

I hate it. Pretty much every damn time. Sure, sleeping in your own bed is nice and all, but I never handle being back home very well. And there is a simple reason for that: I love the person I am on vacation. And that person pretty much vanishes as soon as I’m back home.

In my normal life, I am an overthinker, a pessimist, subconsciously always stressed, which takes a toll on my body and makes me feel terrible most of the time. Therefore, I like to stay in my little safe space, I’m antisocial, and if it wasn’t for the dog, I’d rarely leave the house.

4

On vacation, I am the exact opposite. I want to explore as much as possible, am out and about all day, think a lot less about what I’m eating (my body tends to often hate everything), I’m hardly on my phone, and I just enjoy life a lot more. I like that person. That person is super happy. At home, I miss that person.

But life is just not always carefree and easy. And I know I have some deeply rooted issues, but still, I know that I can be this fun person. I just lose her sometimes. And to be like that in everyday life is hard work. I have to fight my habits, my mind, my body really hard.

So yeah, my post-vacation-blues is real. I currently still feel it a bit cause I came home from a wonderful trip about two weeks ago, and boy was I sad. When the doggy and I went on our same old walks, I cried in the forest a few times. It’s better now, though.

I’m ok. I just have to continue working on myself and definitely make new plans to look forward to. And keep busy with things I love.

Fall love

  • listening: To my annoying neighbors slamming doors. ALL. DAY. LONG.
  • eating:  Toasties and a yogurt.
  • drinking: Earl Grey tea with milk. Also lots of water.
  • wearing: Leggings as usual and a long sweater. It has gotten cold. Definitely no bra.
  • feeling: Annoyed cause it’s Monday, and I have zero motivation.
  • weather: It’s like it has been pretty much all year. Unpredictable!
  • wanting: The week to go by fast. And another vacation.
  • needing: A housekeeper.
  • thinking: About all the things I have to get done this week.
  • enjoying: Catching up on my TV shows while getting all my work done.

Learn From Mean Girls: Don’t Change Who You Are For Other People

In case you didn’t know: It’s October 3rd, so HAPPY MEAN GIRLS DAY!

Mean Girls GIF

I’ve written posts related to this masterpiece of a movie before, so today, I want to dive more into why it’s not a good idea to try changing who you are for other people. I feel like most characters in the movie are all pretending to be someone or something they are not. Except for Damian and Janis. And probably Kevin G. They’re fab. But why are the rest of them faking it? To be popular.

Sure, high school is hard, and fitting in, in some way, is often safer than standing out. But in my opinion, it will also keep you from ever being happy. Pretending is exhausting. My whole life, I’ve always tried to be myself – no matter what. And trust me when I say that I had to deal with a lot of shit because of it. But at the end of the day, even if it was hard sometimes, I always wanted to be able to look in the mirror and know I’m being true to myself. I’d rather be alone than having fake people in my life who don’t love me for me.

In the movie, Cady completely gets sucked into the whole Plastics thing and just changes who she is. But in regards to her upbringing, I guess it was pretty inevitable. She never went to a real school before. Imagine how hard that must be.

What frustrates me, though, is how she pretends to be bad at math to impress Aaron. But then again, I feel like this is a pretty female thing to do: dumbing down to impress a guy. Why on earth do we do this? I’ve probably done it. Yeah, pretty sure I have.

I’ve also done it to keep a male boss from having his ego hurt and freaking out about it. But here is the difference: Sometimes, it’s about understanding a situation and someone’s personality, and then choosing a way to soften the blow toward yourself and getting what you want. But doing it with someone you fancy? That doesn’t make sense cause in case you actually start dating or something, how long are you willing to keep up the charade? And we all deserve someone who loves us for exactly who we are. Nothing less.

All of the Plastics put on a show. Probably to impress Regina George, as much as possible. She’s the shot caller and puts a lot of pressure on everyone. However, she’s just as insecure as everybody else. She’s just good at hiding it. But toward the end of the movie, it becomes clear that the personas they all created aren’t really where their heart is at. And that’s sad. Wear the damn hoop earrings, Gretchen.

But peer-pressure is intense. I’m sure most people have witnessed it at some point. At school, university, work – anywhere. I don’t want to judge, I just want you to know that being yourself will ultimately feel more rewarding. And if you see someone being mistreated for being who they are, please stand up for them.

We all deserve to be ourselves. We are all unique, and that is a good thing. Something even the Plastics eventually figure out. By the end of the movie, they embrace who they are, and just do what they love. And that’s exactly how it should be. Being yourself is so fetch!

Other people matter. But there is no point becoming someone else in order to find friends. In order to find the people who like you, it is first necessary to be you. – Matt Haig, The Comfort Book
