California, here I come!

Ok, I haven’t shared this great news with all of my readers yet, but I am doing it now. Some of you might now that I planned to work as an au pair this year and I finally found the perfect family, two weeks ago. I will spend my time in the US in one of the greatest cities in the world…that’s what I was told. I am going to San Francisco and yes, I will be sure to wear flowers in my hair. Originally, I hoped for the East Coast, since I am a huge fan. New York would have been my absolute dream but sometimes, dreams and wishes change. About two months ago, there was another family viewing my profile and they were from San Francisco. And like the nerd that I am, I started researching the city and kind of fell in love and changed coasts. That family didn’t contact me though, but I ended up in San Francisco, after all. Don’t get me wrong, NY is still my favorite city and I will try to travel there as often as possible, but I haven’t been to San Fran yet and I am sure that I will fall in love with this city, as well. From what I’ve seen on the internet, I can totally see myself living there. I am especially in love with the Japanese Tea Garden. I already have tons of plans for photo projects and I can just feel the inspiration for my writing while sitting in all of these beautiful places.

I still can’t believe that I will actually live there. Beach, sun, architecture and me in the middle of it. And on top of that, I found a family who I loved, right away. The parents are not much older than me and they will have a little girl in June. When we skyped, it was love at fist sight. It took them three sentences to realize that I speak even better English than they do (their words) and because of studying American Studies, I even know more about their history, culture etc. (their words again). Oh well, I’m sorry. ;) But that was definitely not a problem. We laughed a lot, agreed upon everything and I really have a great feeling. I think that because of us all living together, none of us should have doubts and with this family, I feel absolutely positive about the whole experience. When we finished talking, they said that they would talk about their final decision and would let me know by the end of the week. Well, 5 minutes later I got an email which began with the words “Well that took less than a minute…” and that made me soooo happy. I jumped around the house and since then, I am one of the happiest people on earth. I can’t wait to leave on September 29th. I’m pretty sure that this will be an incredible adventure, with great people in a beautiful city.

So, if you have any tips for me and for San Francisco, let me know. I can’t wait to chill with the seals at Pier 39, visit the Painted Ladies and celebrate Full House, one of my favorite 90s shows. I want to take a ride with the cable car, drive over the Golden Gate Bridge and enjoy the beautiful architecture. I loooove Vistorian style houses. I feel very blessed to be able to experience all of it and to have the chance to do something like this. Many people don’t understand why I’m doing this and you know what? I couldn’t care less. You don’t always need a sensible reason to do something. Do what you love and I want to do this for myself. The past years have been very stressful and really hard work and after getting my Master’s degree, I just want to do something completely different, meet new people, see new places, travel, work with children and just enjoy life. I am also looking forward to taking some more college courses like creative writing and learn a lot of new things.

Whatever is waiting for me, I’m very much looking forward to it and of course, I will write about all the great things I come across, along the way. California, here I come!!!
