Scrapbooking 101: My Essentials

Scrapbooking is one of my absolute favorite things to do and I especially love the end results. Whenever I finish a page, I am super proud of it and I truly cherish every memory that my albums contain. But in order to create these master pieces (yeah, I’m totally exaggerating) there are certain things I need, to make everything look like I want it to.

I am planning on going into detail a lot more in future posts, but for now, I will give you an overview of all my essentials. I always use these things and couldn’t enjoy my hobby without them. So in case you’re planning on starting scrapbooking, I highly recommend all of the items listed. And no, I’m not getting paid for any of this. I just genuinely love everything I use.

Scrapbooks
The classic scrapbooks are 30×30 centimeters (12×12 inches) but I prefer them a bit smaller. I order mine from Paperchase UK and always get the medium size. But obviously just go for any book you like. The paper should be a bit thicker though. And honestly, I just want them pretty and I mostly go for travel themed covers. I also recommend ring binding, cause it keeps turning over pages easy, no matter what you add to the book. And when they have an elastic or some other way of keeping it closed, it makes them a lot easier to store and stay in shape.

Washi Tape
There is no such thing as too many washi tapes. It’s so hard for me to leave pretty ones at the store and most times, I’m definitely too weak. I haven’t counted all of my tapes, which I mostly keep in big jars, but during my last shopping spree, I bought like 50. And I don’t regret anything. I feel like they’re everywhere. They just make everything look a lot prettier and always try to match the tape to the content of the page.

Stickers
Every since I was a little girl, I’ve been completely obsessed with stickers and it makes me sad that I don’t have my old sticker albums, anymore. I also used to stick them onto everything – especially furniture and books. I still do that sometimes. And don’t even get me started on Panini albums. I still do those, as well. Anyway, I feel like stickers help so much when creating a page and for me, it’s important that they match the content. I don’t have special stores from where I get them, cause I feel like they’re everywhere. Paperchase, Hema, Action and more. (Unfortunately, not all stores are available in all countries) From my experience, especially rather cheap stores usually have a good supply. And when I go on holiday, on trips, to events etc., I always check, if they’re selling stickers that match the location.

Photos
Aside from all the things I collect and plan on putting in the book, photos are super important to me. I always try to capture as many great memories as possible and also want them on the pages. I get mini prints for most of the pictures, because that way, I can add a lot of them. But my favorite pictures I get in bigger sizes. There are hardly any pages that don’t include photos and that’s the way I like it.

Project Life cards
I know that there are whole project life albums and all, but I just use these cute cards to write down memories that go with everything I put on the page. I usually do it in bullet points, so I can remember what happened on the particular day, a million years from now.

Scissors, glue etc.
Well, I guess this is obvious, but I’m very particular with what I use. I never work with liquid glue, cause it’s too messy and I have never worked well with it. I also don’t want any paper bits to get all wavy. So glue sticks it is. I also use double-sided adhesive tape or those double-sided sticker things to put photos into albums with. And of course I use regular scissors, but I also have these really small and sharp ones that are just amazing. What makes them great is that they cut in the very front, so small parts can be easily brought into shape.

Corner punch
Ok, so this is not super important but it’s just one of my absolute things to use. Round corners are so pretty and I highly recommend you getting one. I get them from Action, which have locations in Germany and the Netherlands, but I’m sure, you can find them in other stores or on the internet.
