12 Awesome Chick Flicks You Have To Watch – Part 1

Chick Flicks

For as long as I can remember, I really loved girly movies. Especially during my teenage years, they were pretty much my bible and I just wanted to live exactly like the girls in the movies, which obviously wasn’t so easy, but I tried very hard. I was obsessed with writing down quotes and phrases and trying to integrate them into my life. I even printed out several copies to give to my friends, so we could all talk like that (which didn’t really happen). I also looked the part and basically lived up to every cliché presented. Platinum blond hair, an intense obsession with pink, plastic finger nails, high heels and whatever else you can think of.

But not all movies on my list have a Barbie doll as the leading character. They’re productions that, no matter how often I watch them, I never ever get bored off, and that never cease to make me laugh. I share many great memories with a lot of them and if you haven’t watched every single one, you’re definitely missing out.

01. Dirty Dancing
This will forever be my favorite movie of all times. I’m such a cliché, I know. But it also used to be me my mom’s favorite, so I was really young when I watched it for the first time. It’s one of the few movies, I don’t mind watching in German, because that’s how I always watched it. It sounds weird to me, when I watch it in English, and I can’t join in saying the lines. Also, the soundtrack is just so fun. I mean, have you listened to “Hungry Eyes?” Doesn’t get much better than that. I’m also still waiting for a man, I can do the full dance with, because goals.

02. Clueless
The first time I watched Clueless, I was around 13 years old and had my best friend over. It took us like five seconds to love it and from thereon, we were Cher and Dionne. Ideally, I was blond and have light skinned, and she has dark hair and dark skin. It was a match made in heaven. We actually still use words and gestures from that movie. It’s a bit like code language, cause nobody else get’s it. I still want Cher’s amazing closet, a white Jeep and Josh.

03. 10 Things I Hate About You
If you don’t love this movie, are you even human? It is super fun, has an amazing soundtrack and OMG Heath Ledger, may he rest in peace. This high school romance is just adorable and every time the song “Hypnotize” comes on, I feel like getting up on a table and dance like no one is watching. And again, the soundtrack is everything. The only part that will forever be a bit upsetting is the fact that Kat basically forgives Patrick, after he buys her a guitar. I mean…really? But I guess we all know the feelings she displays through her poem ” . . . But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you – not even close, not even a little bit, not even any at all.” *sigh*

04. Spice World
As someone who grew up in the 90s, I just have to have Spice World on my list. The girls were my childhood heroines and they did so much for Girlpower. The movie was just the cherry on top of everything else these ladies gave us. The story is of course completely insane, but I never ever get tired of watching it. My favorite scene will forever be the jump over the bridge. I mean, that is special effects excellency. And the interior of the bus is just insane. I still want a swing in my room, a red lips sofa and a catwalk. It’s just the coolest and I really wanted a bee stuffed animal, like Emma has in the movie. And you know what I was really disappointed about? When the song they sang at that promotion gig in Milan wasn’t on the album. Still am.

05. Mean Girls
Back in high school, I was 100% a Pla$tic (Yes, that’s a dollar sign for an s). My friends and I were nicknamed the Pla$tics because we were more on the girly side, while most other girls were the exact opposite. But you know what? We had the best time and haters are gonna hate anyway. I probably still have our burn book somewhere and they’re all in it. The movie is just fun. I admit, not a Hollywood masterpiece, but who cares?! It has some of the most known pop cultural references for a reason. Seriously, if you don’t celebrate October 3rd as Mean Girls Day, you’re not living right. But, you go Glen Coco!!!

06. Cruel Intentions
Can you name only one girl who wouldn’t immediately say yes to watching Cruel Intentions? It’s this dark and twisted story that just gets you absolutely hooked. And back in the 90s, every girl probably fell in love with Sebastian and was absolutely devastated, when he died. The whole story is just so crazily beautiful and tragic. As a young girl, I was fascinated. These teenagers were so grown up. All the drugs, sex and girls making out in the park – I mean, how could anyone ever forget this iconic scene?! And it’s another movie with a fantastic soundtrack. I’m always big on the music.

To be continued . . .

The Gilmore Girls Tag

It has been ages, since I found this fun tag on the Blossom Twins’ blog, after actually bonding over the Gilmore Girls Netflix special back in 2016. That’s how long the questions have been lingering in my drafts. Typical me! But I’ve always loved the Gilmore Girls, and the show or this tag never get old, so I felt like doing it now. If you’re a fan as well, please answer the questions yourself, because I would love to discuss these very important aspects of the show. *crosses fingers for everyone to pick the right team*

© Netflix

1. Let’s get the tough question out the way first…Team Dean, Team Jess or Team Logan?
Isn’t this the most discussed Gilmore Girls question? I don’t even have to think about dismissing Dean. I mean, her first love and all, but I found him extremely boring and he tried to hold Rory back. He wanted a classic housewife and we all know that’s not exactly what a Gilmore is made of. She had wayyy too much ambition compared to him. And the whole sleeping with your ex before your wedding thing? That’s a big fat NO!

I liked Jess. Of course I did, because bad boys are my thing. I loved that he was the free spirit to Rory’s controlled self, but I don’t know, if I wanted to be someone, who doesn’t have any self-control, who is definitely too emotional and who just leaves, when things get hard. I definitely liked his creative side and that he loved reading, though. But I don’t think that he’s the man to have a future with.

Which leaves Logan. He may come off as arrogant, snobby – just your typical rich boy, but I always loved how much of an effort he made for Rory. He may have had an “I’ll get you to be my girl” kind of attitude, but he worked to make her fall for him and didn’t just expect her on a silver platter. And I feel like he stood up for her, especially to his father. He loved her ambition and supported her decisions. Maybe he had a hard time accepting that she didn’t want his help, but his intentions were always good. However, I was disappointed in his ultimatum to either move to the West Coast with him, or to break up. Yeah, long distance is hard, but she has a right to live her dreams, as well.

I just have such a hard time picking a team, but it sure as hell isn’t Dean.

2. You stop by Luke’s Diner, your go to menu item is: Blueberry muffin, Pastry, French toast, Burger and Fries or pancakes with strawberries?
All of it sounds absolutely amazing, but I would probably opt for burger and fries. I can never say no to that, although I’m usually more of a sweet tooth.

3. Harvard or Yale?
Harvard. It just sounds so good. And I already have the shirt for it at home.

4. It’s time for the Star’s Hollow ‘Bid on a Basket’ festival. What are you putting in your basket?
Definitely a bag of Doritos, because I’m so classy. Also water, cause I’m not super big on alcohol, but I’ll pack a beer for my date. Maybe some meat balls, definitely my mom’s pasta salad, cheese, grapes and some chocolate for after. Or I’d do a breakfast basket with hard-boiled eggs, pancakes, fruit, yoghurt and a thermos full of tea.

5. What’s your favourite Gilmore Girls treat food? Pop tarts, Pizza, Chinese, Twinkies?
Chinese for sure. If I want to treat myself, that’s what I get. Usually sweet and sour shrimp with lots and lots of white rice. I really have to pay my favorite Chinese food place a visit soon.

6. Friday night dinners or Star’s Hollow Town meeting?
Watching Gilmore Girls, I keep thinking how lovely this little town is and how sweet and helpful most of the people are, but in reality, I would probably go nuts. But I’ll definitely choose the town meeting. Emily and Richard often remind me of my own grandparents and as much as I love them, I don’t need to sit through a dinner with them, every week. And I mean, with the whole money borrowing thing, it’s forced anyway. I’d rather have Taylor annoy me.

7. Christopher, Max, Jason or Luke?
When you leave me hanging for 16 years, you can just go to hell, so Christopher would definitely not even come close to getting a chance. Jason also wasn’t my thing. Max was really great, but imagine your mother bringing home one of your teachers. I would’ve died. But aside from that, he’s a great guy. All my votes go to Luke, though. He’s just the best. When I think of a keeper, it’s him. The only thing that bothers me, was when April enters his life and he pushes Lorelai away. Great that he wanted to be with his daughter, but you know, a little over dramatic. But in the end, they got married, and that makes me insanely happy.

8. Rory’s ideal night alone is doing laundry in her pajamas, while eating Indian food. What would your ideal night alone be?
She sounds a lot like me, but my food would probably be Chinese and instead of doing laundry, I’d just binge-watch TV shows. Although thinking about it, I do clean the bathroom pretty late, when nobody is home. We’re basically twins.

9. Who would you rather hang out with, Paris, Lane or Marty?
Lane for sure. She’s creative, fun and having a childhood friend is truly a nice thing. Paris is just too much and we would get into huge fights, cause I would never let anyone push me around like that. And Marty who? I hardly paid attention too him. Too needy and you don’t get a girlfriend, when you’re actually in love with her best friend. That was him, right?

10. Finally, with ‘A Year in the life’ just around the corner, what season would you love to visit Stars Hollow in?
Well, it has actually been almost two years, since it hit Netflix and I remember being sooo excited. I love a lot of things about every season, but fall is my absolute favorite. And Connecticut is beautiful during this time of year. Also Halloweeeeeen.

Nine Years Of Twitter Madness

© Twitter

I was recently reminded by Twitter, that it’s been nine years, since I signed up. I still remember where I was and who I was with and it was one of the best ideas ever. I had just started uni and on the first day, I met a wonderful girl, who became a wonderful friend. After a couple of weeks, we decided that we need something that distracts us a little during boring classes, so we entered the Twitter world. I think my first username was “InLovewithNY” which didn’t last very long because I wanted to sound like a celebrity. Cause Twitter is what makes you famous, right?! I even looked for pictures that looked like they could’ve been taken by the papparazzi. I mean, could I be any more pathetic?! It’s hilarious.

So obviously, I didn’t become famous, yet. I never even had a viral tweet. So sad. The fact that after 9 years, I’ve only made it to 1.3k followers clearly shows that I did something very wrong. And I did. For many years, I had absolutely no clue what I was doing on this social media platform. How do I gain followers? How do I meet people? How can I make this work? I don’t really remember when I really started blogging and using Twitter to promote myself, but can you imagine how much bigger I could be, if only I had known how it works? I would totally be Zoella.

Twitter San Francisco

So, what did I learn from Twitter?

1. Interact with people
I literally thought I was so cool that people would just read my stuff and be like “Yeah, she cool!” And I was so happy when I reached 100 followers. I mean, huge achievement, right? A few years ago, I finally discovered something called Twitter chats and I met so many great people through that. Also, the connection to other bloggers is super important and fun. The support is amazing and I’ve had so many great conversations with these people. Unfortunately, most of my Twitter-friends don’t live in Germany, but I still hope to meet some of them in real-life, someday.

2. Promote your blog posts
Did you know that when you properly promote your posts, some nice people will retweet you and help you get more readers? I didn’t for a super long time, so my numbers are ridiculously low, considering all the years I’ve been posting stuff online. It’s really helpful and I used to do it pretty regularly, once I found out. However, it is a lot of work and ever since I started working full-time, I’ve been pretty much slacking off in the online world. And I had an app that worked great for me, but now it doesn’t anymore, so that’s that. If anyone has recommendations for apps that schedule tweets, please let me know.

3. Follow people and be active
Don’t just wait for the people to follow you. See who has an interesting biography, shares the same interest as you etc. and follow them. Strike up a conversation and maybe make an online friend. And also share other people’s things, answer questions, participate in games, polls, giveaways, because it does make a huge difference. I should get back to doing more of all of this myself, but it does cost some time, that I don’t always have. I’m also lazy. But I was really happy when I reached 1k and I still am. Now, if this would only work on Instagram, but that’s a different story.

Twitter

All of that being said, I never regretted being on this app, because it has given me so much, which sounds weird, but it is what it is. So many wonderful conversations, tweets that really cracked me up, finding interesting articles written by even more interesting people, and yeah, even being able to communicate with your favorite celebrities (if they answer) makes this my number one. Just to be able to write  anything that comes to my mind? Love it. And no, a journal isn’t the same because on Twitter, chances are, you’ll find someone, who thinks or feels exactly the way you do.

Mixtape #22 – More and More 90s

If there is one genre that gets me going, it’s 90s music, and there is nothing I can do about it. It was an important part of my childhood and I miss almost everything from that time. Gladly, I feel like music from this era has been re-incorporated into our lives a lot more, over the past few years. A blast from the past is cool and just works because a lot of people have important memories connected to these songs. You can definitely find me on the dancefloor, whenever Spice Girls or Backstreet Boys are blasting from the speakers. Therefore, I just had to put together another list with some of my favorite 90s tunes. One just wasn’t enough.

Goodbye June 2018

Goodbye June,

and hello July. Can you believe that half a year is already over? And boy, what a busy month this was. I am definitely not used to having plans, all the time. I need so much time for myself, it’s insane. I was out and about every weekend and I also had two weeks off from work, which were also packed with plans. But since I didn’t travel anywhere, which I’m still a bit sad about, I couldn’t just do nothing. As much as I love the thought, I don’t have that much time to waste.

I spent a lot of time on the road, but it was definitely worth it. When my mom was still in the clinic, I visited her and we enjoyed the beautiful weather together. The poor woman even visited an old castle with me, crutches in hand and all. But she’s a tough cookie, so we did not just sit around doing nothing. The city Bernkastel-Kues is really beautiful, with lots of old architecture, which of course I had to take a million pictures of. We also went on a boat tour and a sightseeing bus tour. The weather was amazing, as it has been for most of June, and some quality time together never hurts.

My two weeks off started with a weekend full of laughter. I went to the zoo with two of my besties and what can I say – it was absolutely wonderful. When you know people for a million years, it’s just the best. And I always go to the zoo with these two, so it was just perfect. So much laughing, talking, catching up – almost makes me wish, I was still in school, where I can see my friends everyday. So that was fun. And the Sunday after, we wanted to do canoeing with the whole group, but one girl got sick, so we ended up having a nice breakfast, instead. Two days of getting up super early, but it was so worth it. There is seriously no better time than with my girls.

For the first time ever, my god son spent a whole weekend at my place and it was fun, but definitely reminded me of why I just don’t want kids. I mean, I’m just not cut out for it and I have zero patience for everyone older that like three. I took him to an amusement park, where everything was appropriate for his age and what happened? He can’t wait to go on the roller coaster, but then realizes, after only one ride, that he’s too scared and it’s not for him. Minimum age started at FOUR. He’s SEVEN and a half. Imagine my disappointment. Lesson learned. But we got along well. I also took him to see miniature trains, made him all kinds of junk food and whatever else you do with kids.

After that, spent some days at my grandma’s house and I love how insanely happy it makes her, when I’m there. And she just does everything for me, so I was definitely able to chill. Another fun thing was going shopping at Primark, which I do like once a year. I went absolutely nuts and just bought whatever I felt like buying. Not many clothes though, cause I looked horrible in everything. But good thing they had enough Disney stuff I don’t need that I could buy. Took it all home.

I also went to a wedding, which was nice. Although I have to admit that I’m a bit over them, cause I’m never ever just a guest. This time it was singing and taking pictures. So much stress. But otherwise fun. And it’s nice to get a little dolled up, once in a while. The highlight of the month was a day with my best friend, though. I went to Mainz and we did basically everything I wanted. I got to eat some of my favorite food, we went to a Disney exhibition, she made a real effort to take cute pictures of me and we really just laughed all day long. Definitely my favorite day of the month.

At this point, I would also love to tell you how much I enjoyed watching the World Cup, but I rather not. What the hell Germany??? But since it happened to so many great teams, I guess it’s ok. Pretty disappointing, but nothing that can be done about it. The best team should win and we were so far away from that, it’s ridiculous. So I’ll tell you that aside from having a blast, I also did things like deep-clean my whole room, get my car fixed, some doctor’s appointments. Super interesting, I know. But overall, I jut had a really great month.

Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts. Buy things you don’t need but that make you really happy. Spend time with your loved ones. Laugh uncontrollably. Put yourself first. Give your room, house or wherever you live a good cleaning. Cook your favorite meal and really enjoy eating it. Have a movie night. Make somebody smile.

Tons of love,
Hailey
