#BloggerProblems

Yes, yes, us bloggers have to deal with a lot of problems on a daily basis and although they may not seem serious to most people, I know that bloggers totally get me. I admit, none of this cannot be survived but it can be super frustrating, at times. And before you roll your eyes at us, think about all the #firstworldproblems you would put on a list because those aren’t life demolishing, either. If you have anything to add to this list, be my guest and leave a comment.

  • When you get emails from weird companies and they start spamming you.
  • When you really want to join a blogger chat but the topic just isn’t yours.
  • When you’re desperately trying to figure out how somebody would pay you to blog about travelling or Disneyland.
  • When you can’t come up with a good opening sentence.

A Story About Bullying And Peer Pressure

Raindrops keep falling on my headWhenever I hear about people harming themselves or others because they don’t know how to deal with bullying anymore, it makes me incredibly sad because I know how they feel. One of the worst things that can happen to you in life is when people constantly try to make you feel miserable for being the person that you are. It hurts, it brings you down, it makes you question your whole existence.

For as long as I can remember, I have always been an outsider. For some people this may come as a surprise, depending on where they know me from, because I am a very outspoken, open-minded and self-confident person who has no problem with standing up for herself or others and can also be social and very friendly. My life has been pretty different from most people I know and although it has been good for developing into the person that I am today, it didn’t make my life any easier. While growing up, my family and I moved around a few times, which made it difficult to make life-long friendships and included a lot of assimilation to different surroundings. I was born in Germany but we also lived in America twice, so I had to adjust and re-adjust a lot, make new friends, even learn a new language and I just grew up a lot differently from most people I know. In my American day care, I was a girl from Germany, in my German school, located in America, I was among people who went through the same thing but I still wasn’t really voted most liked by everyone and when I went back to Germany, I was the girl from America. These roles, I was able to live with, what came afterward only became worse.

There is probably nothing I haven’t heard about me throughout my teenage years and beyond. Everyone talked behind my back and spread all kinds of ridiculous rumors, even though I never done anything to anyone. It started when I was 12, when I still had my natural hair color and loved playing with Barbie. Since then, people at school tried to make my life as miserable as possible and what can I tell you, it hurt. It still does today because I never gave anyone an actual reason to hate me. I was just a girl with a few friends, obsessed with boys and the Spice Girls and not really an in-your-face kind of person.

Early on, I had to make a decision that would have a huge effect on the rest of my life. When something like this happens, you actually have a choice. It’s not an easy one to make but trust me, there is a choice. You can either let other people dictate and ruin your life or you don’t give them that and live the life that you want. Let me tell you one thing, people hate nothing more than trying their hardest to break you but not succeeding. It was never easy to do but it made me the bigger and better person. I would’ve rather cut my arm off than show weakness. I cried at home where nobody could see me. I pretended not to care about all the cruel things people said but didn’t laugh in pictures until I was 18 because they thought it was funny to call me things like horse mouth. I had guys not want to be with me because even though they liked me as a person, they couldn’t admit it to others, since that would reflect poorly on them and destroy their reputation. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you how much that hurt. Puberty is hard enough already so who needs something heartbreaking like that?

People always thought that I was stupid and are still questioning how I ever finished my A-levels, let alone get a Master’s degree. I probably slept my way through college. When I joined the school band, I had random people calling and telling me to quit because I couldn’t sing. Haters always try to go against something that you love. And of course whenever someone sang the wrong note, it was always me. I had huge problems singing in front of people for a long time because I let it get to me. I didn’t quit though and entered every stage that people asked me to enter. Giving up something that I love for a bunch of idiots just wasn’t my thing.

So as I was growing up, I was bullied because I loved wearing short skirts and make-up and I dared to dye my hair platinum blond. I was bullied for being too tall, for not being pretty enough, for my teeth, my hobbies, my talents, my upbringing, my taste in music, my favorite color and so many other superficial things. The point is though, none of this made me a bad person, or a slut, a bitch or whatever negative word comes to your mind. Not my love for pink or electronic music or my lower back tattoo, all of wich I have been judged and criticized for. The irony is that many of these people ended up doing and liking lots of things they used to hate me for. Go figure. If you don’t like the person I am that is absolutely fine because I don’t expect everyone to like me. But at least give me a chance before you make an idiotic character judgement based on my favorite color.

During the last years of school, I was even bullied for being arrogant but after all those years of constant hate, it was the wall I built up for myself. It was the only way to protect me because imagine what would have happened if I let all those bad things get to me. And yes, I thought I was a better person than all of those terrible people and I still do so, today. If that makes me arrogant, so be it.

I’m pretty sure that most of the bullying happened because of jealousy. I know that it makes people roll their eyes when you say that people say and do things because they’re jealous – it seems conceited – but it is what it is. I don’t think the jealousy was based on my looks or clothes, talents, style etc. I’m sure they were simply jealous of the fact that I didn’t seem to care. With all the shit they threw at me, they wanted to see me crack . They wanted to hurt me and make me cave in, but I never did and never will. They were jealous of me being strong enough to always be myself, no matter what, cause lots of people are just too scared to do exactly that. The sad thing is, more than 15 years later, those pathetic people haven’t changed one bit but I guess it’s just a beloved small-town sport, although it can happen anywhere.

In the past, I’ve actually asked people why they thought so negatively of me and it was always the same answer “because everyone does.” Isn’t that nice?! Peer pressure is a terrible thing. It’s dangerous and I feel sorry for everyone who give in to it, just to live an easy life. If you don’t have the balls to be an individual and to form your own opinion, I feel very sorry for you because individuality is what makes you, you. It may be difficult when you’re young but trust me when I tell you that you’ll feel so much better about yourself when you’re older.

I never understood why the popular girls were so loved by everyone, anyway. Until today, I find these ladies extremely dull, especially cause they are all suck-ups who always try their absolute hardest for everyone to like them. I’d rather be hated. The decision I made was to always be myself, no matter what other people say. To me, it was much more important to be able to look into a mirror  than to be just one of many. The thought of being just like everybody else always bored me so I had to choose the hard way. I guess all the hate ultimately made me stronger and despite everything I had to endure, I developed self-confidence for ten people, something people also hate me for.

I was an outsider in all schools, at university and even as an au pair because my main goal never was just to try an fit in and be friends with everyone. I always preferred to surround myself with a few good and loyal friends, who love me for me and don’t care what others thought, instead of huge crowds of random people who would bail if things get rough.

People who have known me for a long time still tell me that they could’ve never done it. Some of my friends actually told me that I was the strongest person they knew, just because I always had the guts to be completely myself. My mother is still grateful that I was strong enough to live my life without harming myself because of everything people have done or said. It makes me proud and sad, all at once because people shouldn’t have to go through anything like this. Years of constant harassment, rumors, slut-shaming and rejection are not easy to deal with but I did.

I honestly feel terrible for kids today because the world wide web makes the bullying even worse, since people can actually hide behind a screen to act like monsters. If social media had been a thing back in the days, I’m pretty sure that my life would have been even worse because people just really get a kick out of cyber bullying. Just so you know, you are cowards and I feel bad for you.

For everyone going through bullying in any way, I know how you feel. It is terrible  and unfair and nobody should be put through anything like this. But you are better than that and you can get through it. It’s not easy, it will hurt but you can do it. Try to surround yourself with a few positive people, find some hobbies that make you happy and just try to stay strong, as hard as you can. And if you ever feel like you can’t handle it anymore, please get help. Your life and sanity is what matters most and don’t let ignorant and awful people destroy any of it.

You don’t have to love every single person around you but at least give them a chance, no matter how they look or where they come from. Making others feel bad doesn’t make you a better person and acceptance of differences is the one thing this world desperately needs

A List Of Things I’m Terrible At

Perfectly Imperfect I feel like most people always try their hardest to present themselves in their very best way but I think it’s completely okay to show off your flaws. Perfection is totally overrated and I feel like flaws are what make people interesting. Sure, not all imperfections are honorable but most are tolerable, and some can even be cute. Anyway, I share with you some things that I am absolutely terrible at because I’m far, far away from being perfect.

01. Math
It was definitely one of my worst subjects in school but I found a uni major that didn’t include any of it. I’m so bad that I still count with my fingers when I do math, but I manage. I got it from my mama.

02. Being patient
Waiting for someone or something totally kills my mood and I absolutely hate it. And yeah, I’m a complete hypocrite because I’m a pro at keeping people waiting. But you know what the worst kind of waiting is? When you’re expecting important mail and the post man takes forever to arrive.

03. Keeping my balance
It’s so bad that you can actually see me tripping while simply standing somewhere. It’s ridiculous.

04. Getting out of bed
I will get up when I need to be somewhere. I’m never happy about it but okay. However, when I don’t have to leave the house, which has been the case for quite a few months now, it can be impossible to make me get up. I need someone to steal my blanket and pour water over my face but that person would most likely get killed.

05. Stop binge-watching shows
I just can’t do it. I’m always like “one more episode is ok” and then end up staying awake way too long. That’s particularly bad when I need to get up early.

06. Only eating a handful of chips
I mean honestly, who in the world is capable of doing that?!

07. Going to bed at a reasonable time
I’ve always been more of a night owl so going to bed early just never really works. Trust me, I’ve tried many times. That always results in me sleeping all day when I don’t need to be somewhere or me not getting enough sleep when I do have to leave my bed.

08. Wearing actual pants
I just don’t really like them. 90% of the time you’ll see me in leggings. There are also sweatpants and maybe I’ll jump into some jeggings but that also doesn’t happen very much. Leggings are my religion.

09. Remembering how old my family members are
With me being terrible with math and all, you can imagine that I’m bad with numbers. I pretty much always get their age wrong.

10. Responding to emails
I like writing emails but I’m terrible at responding and I can’t even tell you why.

11. Keeping my room cleaned up
I absolutely love when my room is all neat and tidy but I’m just super terrible at keeping it that way. I just suck at putting my stuff away after using it.

12. Being on time for dates
I’m usually on time when it comes to official appointments or work but I’ll probably not be super early, either. I do have a problem with being on time when I’m meeting with friends or family and I hate when any of them keep me waiting. I’m a horrible person.

13. Cutting carbs
I mean not eat pasta, pizza or bread? I tried but it’s just not for me. I’ll just accept my little food belly and enjoy the wonderful taste of carbs.

14. Sticking to my blog schedule
How hard can it be to blog three times a week when you literally have nothing to do? I’ll tell you, super hard. Bad, bad blogger.

15. Using up stationery before buying anything new
If you tell me right now that you actually do that, I will really question the universe. I really try but it’s just always too cute to leave at the store. I’ve gotten a lot better at it, though.

16. Early mornings
As you have probably figured out by now, I don’t do mornings and if I have to, I won’t be in a very good mood.

17. Keeping secrets from my mom
We don’t really have secrets from each other but sometimes, I may not want to tell her something or at least keep it to myself for a while but it hardly ever works. When I was younger, I thought about secretly getting tattoos or piercings but I could’ve never gotten away with it.

18. Riding a bike
It sure took me a while to learn it as a child and it only really worked after my parents told me they would buy me a present when I make it. After that, I had pretty solid bike riding skills and a super fancy bike but nowadays, I don’t really want to go near one. The few times I dared to go for a ride, I always ended up being lucky not to end up in hospital.

19. Making important calls
Technically, I’m actually pretty good at this but I hate it. Whenever I need to make calls for a doctors appointment or ring up a company or call someone who offers an appartment or anything like that, I postpone or try to send emails etc, even though it takes so much more time. I blame my mother for this because she made calls for me for way too long.

20. Setting an alarm
I don’t know how many times this has happened to me. It also has to do with my math problem because when I try to figure out when exactly I have to get up, I mess it up and even if I get it right, chances are I still set it all wrong.

21. Keeping my mouth shut
As a kid, I was rather shy but the older I got, the more than changed. Me and my loud mouth have gotten in some trouble here and there but that’s ok. Sometimes, I just can’t help myself and things just slip out. Sorry not sorry. If you have no sense of humor though, you probably don’t want to hang with me.

The Beauty of California and What to Do

I was lucky enough to live in the sunshine state California ( I don’t care if Florida is called that) for a whole year and I had the chance to visit a lot of different places, all around. I lived in the beautiful city of San Francisco which should definitely be #1 on your list but there are lots more wonderful places that are worth a trip. If you ever get the chance tvisit California, make sure to include some of these places.

California Republic

1. San Francisco
In case you only have the chance to visit one place in California, I would say it should be this one. I lived here for a whole year and I can truly say that it’s a fantastic city. There is loads to do and you’ll find incredible spots that just take your breath away. There are some of the most famous landmarks in this city and you’re friends will be so jealous when they see you standing in front of the Golden Gate Bridge. I could give you a list of things to do here, but that would be incredibly long, so just check out my post on this. Anyway, if I ever meet someone who tells me that they don’t like San Francisco, I will start screaming in their face.

San Francisco
2. Disneyland
This may not be for everyone,  if not you’re a monster, but definitely make sure to visit Disneyland. The first time I went here was as a little girl, while on vacation with my family in San Diego, and 20 years later, I went again with a couple of friends and it was great. I bought new mouse ears, spent way too much money on lots of pretty things, took a ride on the carousel, met and took pictures with some characters and so much more. It’s the happiest place on earth and if you try to tell me otherwise, I will hold my ears and sing lalalaaa really loud.

Disneyland
3. Lake Tahoe
This is an absolutely gorgeous place, no matter if you visit during summer or winter. It offers opportunities for winter sports, you can go hiking, swimming, fishing, sun bathing and more. I went there with my host family for a weekend and even though we didn’t do a ton, it was absolutely lovely. We stayed in a nice lodge, just like one in movies, which I totally loved, even though it reminded me of winter, which I’m not a huge fan of. We went for a lovely walk and the weather was a bit cold but still sunny, so perfect. I took the car to the lake because obviously, I didn’t want to leave without seeing it and in the evening, we went to the Ritz Carlton to have some s’mores around the fire and some dinner. This was super lovely to do and I’m sure there are a lot more lovely things to have fun with.

Lake Tahoe
4. Hearst Castle
My friend and me went on a weekend bus trip, which was interesting but probably won’t ever happen again, and one of the places we visited was the beautiful Hearst Castle near San Simeon (Try not laughing when the tour guid keeps saying San Semen all the time, I know, very mature.). I must say, what we saw from the castle interior didn’t really knock my socks off, but the outdoor site is just incredible. The view is stunning, the architecture is amazing and it’s just a really gorgeous place. I mean, even Lady Gaga shot one of her music videos here, so trust me when I tell you that it’s gorgeous.

Hearst Castle
5. Yosemite National Park
That bus trip we did also included a stop at Yosemite National Park and I don’t even have words for how incredibly beautiful it is. And we didn’t even catch a time, when the waterfalls are running. If you want to see those, you have to plan your trip accordingly. Unfortunately, we didn’t spend much time there and only made a few picture stops but still, it was incredible. If I ever go again, I’d prefer to add a little hiking (yes, that just came from me) and you know, maybe even camping (maybe not).

Yosemite National Park
6. Los Angeles
I admit that this city isn’t my favorite in the world because it’s just not that pretty. I know that a lot of people will disagree with this but maybe they just haven’t seen other gorgeous places. Anyway, I went twice and sure, there are fun things to do and cool places to check out. I thought the Gryffith Observatory was great and you have an awesome view, all over the city, and you’re also able to see the Hollywood sign from there. You can go looking for stars on the Walk of Fame, visit the Urban Light and if you’re a true 90s kid, make sure to visit the original Charmed house because a good fangirl/boy moment never hurts.

Los Angeles
7. Highway 1 – Big Sur
The West Coast is just incredibly beautiful and if you want to get a good glimpse of it, take Highway 1 and enjoy the view. My friends and me took the car from San Francisco all the way to Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur, which is popular for a hole within the rock formation that the sun is supposed to hit at sunset. I hate to tell you this but it doesn’t. I guess it only happens during a certain time of year and September just isn’t it. There were cameras on tripods everywhere and getting there wasn’t fun at all, since lots of people go there, but it was pretty anyway because Californian sunsets are beautiful anywhere. You also cross popular bridges, see amazing landscapes and it’s just a very beautiful ride.

Big Sur
8. San Diego Parks
Besides checking out cities, I love amusement parks in every form. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see much of the city, the last time I visited, but the main reason for the trip were the parks, anyway. My family and I went there when my brother and me were kids and I just wanted to go back as an adult. Technically, my mom really wanted to visit the zoo again so I took her and we had a lovely time. Also make sure to take a look around the place in front of the park because you’ll find a beautiful carousel and a little train that takes you for a fun ride. Yes, I don’t think I need to tell you that I hopped on, right away. The Zoo is located at Balboa Park and I wish I could’ve visited the park more but it’s on my list for the next visit. Sea World is somewhere I wanted to go again because I just absolutely love the life under the sea and I’m obsessed with visiting aquariums. This is just a bigger version of it but definitely a lot of fun.

San Diego Parks
9. Jelly Belly Factory
If you’re a candy fan like me, you have to go. It’s located in Fairfield, about an hour outside of San Francisco, and they offer free tours. I took my former au pair child and we got to see how Jelly Beans are made. It was probably more exciting for me than it was for her because she was a bit too young but we did have a lovely time. It’s just a very colorful and fun place which includes photobooths, a huge merchandize store where you can buy beans in whatever flavor you like, a food court, game machines and more. If I were a kid, I’d love to celebrate my birthday there. I’d probably even do it as an adult.

Jelly Belly Factory
10. Santa Monica Pier
If you make it to LA, absolutely make sure to stop by at the Santa Monica Pier. I am a huge kid inside and everything there just really pulls me in. Take a ride on the ferris wheel and enjoy the incredible view or hop onto the beautiful merry-go-round. Stuff your mouth with fast food, buy some postcards or just hang out at the beach. You’ll also find the famous Muscle Beach right next to the Pier, if you’re into it. This is a nice place to just let go and have fun, goof around, be a kid and enjoy the sunshine.

Santa Monica
11. Silicon Valley
So you can’t really check out the Facebook headquarters but at least you can get a fun picture in front of a huge sign. However, you can visit Google and it’s an amazing campus. I’m not exactly sure how far you can go but if you have someone who works there, you get a pretty good view of everything Google has to offer. I mean, that place is incredible and includes anything an employee could wish for and even more, since it actually goes beyond anyone’s imagination until you’ve actually seen it.

Silicon Valley
12. Muir Woods
If you want to hike through a lovely piece of nature, visit the Muir Woods. You can either just go for the general route or plan on going for some major hiking action, whatever works for you. Some of those trees are so big, you could actually live in them. The great thing about San Francisco is that even though it’s a big city, you don’t have to drive very far to find beautiful green spaces to enjoy. If you have some time left on your way back, you can add a little stop at Point Bonita Lighthouse, located in the Marin Headlands, because getting there will give you a crazy view and it’s cute and free.

Muir Woods
13. Monterey Bay Aquarium
As I mentioned above, I love aquariums and it makes me incredibly happy to visit them. During the fun trip along Highway 1, my friends and I stopped at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which is a particularly nice one. It’s located directly by the ocean and in general just in a really pretty place. Man, I know I’m fangirling so hard over the West Coast but it’s just so pretty, wherever you go. I think they made a very good job with this aquarium and Monterey in general is not a bad place to be, either.

Monterey Bay Aquarium
14. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Vallejo
I know that this may not be on the top of most people’s list when they’re on vacation but if your a kid at heart like me, you cherish a good and fun amusement park. This one has fabulous roller coasters, animals, Looney Tunes running around and the best thing ever, they offer dolphin encounters. It has always been a dream of mine to swim with dolphins and at Six Flags it came true. It was an absolutely amazing experience and it’s also affordable in comparison to other places who offer something like this.

Sixx Flags Discovery Kingdom
15. Santa Cruz Boardwalk
Here we go again, another wonderful boardwalk and I’m fangirling all over it. Seeing carousels and roller coasters makes my heart jump, I just can’t help it. There is sunshine, the beach, fast food, arcades, souvenir shops and just tons of fun. Unfortunately, I learned of this place a little to late, so I only went once for a couple of hours but it was amazing. I guess every trip that includes a ride on a merry-go-round makes me happy but still. I really want to go back and spend a whole day there and just have lots and lots of fun.

6 Reasons Why Friends Is One Of The Best Shows Ever

Friends GIF

In the last few weeks, I’ve been binge-watching FRIENDS again and it’s just one of these shows that I never get sick of. I imagine myself still watching it when I’m 80 while laughing my butt off because it’s just so perfect. Here are a few reasons why it’s one of my absolute favorite TV shows and should become yours, as well.

1. Relatable Characters
The fact that each of the characters, in all their craziness, are so super relatable makes this show extremely special. The bunch is within the same age group as I currently am, and they are struggling with the same problems as me, which makes me feel a little bit better about myself. They’re not sure what to do in terms of jobs, they’re working their way through lots of relationships and just trying to figure out how they want their lives to be. Friends shows how it is to become an adult and that it’s not always easy and pretty, but that there is always some way out of a miserable situation.

Friends GIF

2. It’s a Timeless Show
These people have realistic problems that normal people simply can relate to and that makes them timeless, since these problems will always be present, especially when you’re in your late 20s. Even though the show is set in the late 90s and early 00s, and people in the future will probably be surprised by the lack of technology and their fashion sense, the storyline will never go out of style.

Friends GIF

3. The Stuggle with Relationships
Dating is hard. Finding the right person to spend the rest of your life with is a super difficult task, even in a city like New York. Sure, I guess it always depends on what you’re looking for but in general, it’s not easy, despite some people telling you it is. The gang goes through a lot of ups and downs while getting adjusted to adult life and they portray all kids of different scenarios. In love, anything can happen and the show demonstrates that it’s completely ok, no matter in which form it comes.

Friends GIF

4. Great Friendships
There is nothing more important in life than friends who will always have our back, no matter what happens. I mean, Rachel takes Monica’s baby name and they’re still friends. You can’t choose your family but you can choose who you want to be friends with. Throughout your life, there will be a lot of people who come and go but some of them will be people who stay forever and that is very important. I love that these characters all come from different backgrounds and know each other on different levels. They are siblings, highschool friends and people they just met when moving to a new city, which shows that you can find keepers all throughout your life, if you let it happen.

5. Amazing Characters
I hardly know one person who doesn’t love this show and its amazing characters. My favorite is definitely Rachel because she reminds me a lot of myself. She’s a bit clueless and girly but has a big heart and well, she’s Rachel. Also, Monica with her crazy obsessions, which I absolutely love. I mean sure, it can probably be a bit much but I wouldn’t mind living in a super clean and neat place. And having a personal chef at home doesn’t sound bad, either. Ross is my favorite guy because Joey is just too much, a great friend but too much of a player, and Chandler just isn’t my thing. And I think his nerdiness is cute (minus that one time he used the ultimate “We we’re on a break” douchebag move). Phoebe is a lovely character but personally not really my type of person. But I’m sure we all have our favorite. And of course, not to forget that the show also has amazing guest appearances by people like Brad Pitt, Danny DeVito, Julia Roberts, Tom Selleck, Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd and many more. They make the show even more special.

6. Jokes for Days
I’m one of these people who maybe find something funny but can’t really laugh out loud. I don’t know why but it just doesn’t happen very often. With this show though, I laugh a lot and no matter how bad my mood is, I can be sure that an episode of Friends will cheer me up. Even if it’s only a Twitter conversation full of Friends GIFs, it works. The jokes are great, the characters are very comedic  and if they don’t make you laugh, something is wrong with you.
