All the Things I Want to Be

Ever since I was a little girl, my head has always been full of ideas. Therefore, I never had just that one game plan in mind of what I wanted to be. Even when I went to university, I didn’t fully know where I was heading. Thankfully, a plan did develop along the way, and today, I work as a journalist, and it is definitely a good job for me since it’s pretty versatile.

But that doesn’t mean I don’t catch myself in those “in another life…” moments, where I think about all the other things I would like to be. There are a few that seem so much fun, or I know I’d be pretty good at, and I do hope that I’ll live many more lives to try them all out.

Bitmoji Jobs

Marine Biologist: I’ve always been pretty fascinated by life under the sea, and I would absolutely love to discover all of it. Maybe I just watched too many mermaid movies, but something just draws me in. The problem is, I’m actually a bit scared of the open sea which isn’t very convenient for the job. And I was also not very good in biology class, so it wouldn’t have been a proper subject at uni for me. All of it just doesn’t go together very well. So I just visit lots of aquariums.

Rapper: Yeah, this one may sound weird, but boy, I would love to be a rapper. They are so talented and intelligent with words, and the music is fun. Now, I can’t say I have zero talent, cause I’m good with lyrics and can talk fast and all, but I don’t think it sounds great. I’ll rap “Butterfly” from Crazy Town or “Shoop” by Salt n Pepa perfectly, but I don’t really sound like a superstar. I think. I don’t rap much in front of others. I’m a good singer, though.

Detective/Agent: It doesn’t matter if a private detective, for the police, or maybe an agent for the CIA, or whatever. Out of all the jobs in the world, this is the one thing I would love being the most. I watch so many crime shows and really want to be involved. It’s so interesting and I love snooping around, doing research, etc. This probably is a glorified version of the real deal, I know, but in my head, it’s exactly what I want to be. Analyzing evidence, following clues, solving crimes and mysteries are totally up my ally.

Wedding/Party Planner: Do you have any idea how great I would be at shouting into a headset for people to get things done? I would definitely make sure that everything was in place to get the party started. Personally, I don’t want to get married, which is actually a shame, cause I would love to plan my wedding and it would be amazing. In my friend group, I’ve always been the organizer of everything and threw so many parties that I feel like I don’t really need actual training. But I probably do. Anyway, I love organizing and planning, giving orders, crossing things off my to-do-list, so this would be perfect.

Carrie Bradshaw: I know that this isn’t a job, but anyone who watched Sex and the City knows exactly what I’m talking about. She’s an author, a columnist, and surely, I would love to be exactly that. Which technically could still be possible. Being flexible with everything, getting paid for an article here and there, selling your own books, etc. And she can afford an apartment in New York and lots and lots of Manolo Blahnik’s with all of it. Sure, it’s very unrealistic, but a girl can dream, right?!

Would You Rather…? – Fashion Edition

I usually don’t write much about fashion, and I would say I don’t think too much about it either. Although this year, I did try to update my wardrobe a bit and not simply run around in leggings all day, every day. But I came across a fun post on the blog “3YellowDaisies”  and thought I’d give it a shot. Apparently, the only rules are that you have to actually make a decision, and “I don’t know” is not an acceptable answer.

Fashion Edition

01. Wear the same outfit every day or only be allowed to wear neutrals for life?
Although I would definitely miss a colorful eyecatcher once in a while, I’d definitely wear neutrals for life. I could probably live in the same hoodie and leggings forever, but changing it up can’t hurt. And I mostly own black and gray anyway.

02. Be underdressed or overdressed for an event?
When I was younger, being underdressed was something I didn’t even know how to be. I definitely got more comfortable over the years, but it feels weird to me when everyone went all out and I didn’t. So I’m definitely gonna choose being overdressed.

03. Have an unlimited supply of perfect white t-shirts or perfect little black dresses?
Perfect little black dresses for sure. I mean, you can never really go wrong with that, and you can also combine it in so many ways.

04. Only be able to wear futuristic or old-timey clothing?
I love the fashion of the golden 20s, so that would totally be cool. I would definitely go for being a flapper and throwing Gatsby-parties.

05. Have a closet filled with only prints and bright colors or black clothes?
Black clothes forever. As a teenager, I was more Barbie, adult me goes more for Morticia Adams.

06. Wear leather jackets or denim jackets for the rest of your life?
This one is sooo easy. Leather jackets, preferably faux. It’s one of my absolute favorite pieces of clothing, and it goes with everything and makes it a little edgy. And since I always wear a black one, it goes well with all the answers above.

07. Wear Chanel or Louis Vuitton?
I’ll go for Chanel. Although old school Chanel is probably a little too posh for me, I love the patterns and never say no to black and white. And they have cool modern pieces as well. I’d also love to own an actual Chanel purse someday. Which is also not really me, but I like to mix styles. Louis is a bit too over the top for me.

08. Wear only dresses or coordinating suits for all formal events?
Dresses for sure. So many beautiful options out there and deep down, I’m still a girly-girl.

09. Wear heels that are ugly and old, but super comfortable or gorgeous heels that everyone loves, but torture your feet and give you blisters?
Since I don’t wear heels often, the one time I do, I may as well make an effort and live through the pain. I’m definitely going for gorgeous heels on this one.

10. Shop more and pay less or shop less and live more?
Easy, shop less, and live more. No piece of clothing is worth more than spending money on fun like doing things with my friends, travel, or whatever else you can do with money.

Falling In and Out of Love With Blogging

Ever since I was a little girl, writing has always given me so much joy, so blogging pretty much had to happen. I still find it super fascinating that with just one click, you can put anything you want out for the whole world to read. If only that many people would find their way to my page…

I think it’s been roughly ten years since I started blogging. And one would think, I’d be more successful with the numbers and all. But my intention was never to make money from it. And in the beginning, I had no clue and completely failed at gaining a following, cause I did not make proper use of tools like social media.

Blogging

Once I figured some things out, I was pretty active for a few years by blogging regularly and promoting it on social media, participating in Twitter chats, visiting other blogs regularly, and so on. But for two or three years now, it has been a constant struggle. My head is always full of ideas, but I’m lacking motivation. And I think it’s because my job is pretty similar to blogging. I’m a journalist and I write, edit, take pictures, produce the paper, and whatnot. At the end of the day, I’ve been sitting in front of a computer long enough. And my body is also pretty messed up, so at some point, I just can’t sit anymore without being in pain.

I also have too many hobbies, which has pretty much always been the case. If my social life wasn’t close to non-existent, I probably wouldn’t get anything I love done. Aside from writing, I also love reading and scrapbooking, which can take up lots of time. Furthermore, I watch too much Netflix, etc., but at least, I can do that while doing most other things, except for reading. I am also lazy at times and a huge procrastinator.

I don’t see myself as an influencer at all, and I also do not like the term cause nobody should be influenced by others. Always form your own opinion. But I do like to inspire people. And if only a handful of people read what I put out into the world,  like it, and can relate, I’m satisfied.

Blogging

Writing and taking pictures is a lot of fun, and I’ve met amazing people from all over the world because of blogging. I don’t really have a niche cause I just love too many things, but that’s just how I am – a little bit of everything. I have my highs when I am absolutely in love with blogging like right now with doing Blogtober. I needed this challenge to get back to posting regularly, and I hope it sticks once October is over. It’s just that when I get overwhelmed by everything that’s going on in my life, I kinda fall out of love and it becomes a burden because pressuring myself into getting posts out there is never a good plan. But I’m hopeful that I’ll stay in love for a while now. Cause if I can manage Blogtober, I should be able to post a few times per week.

All the Things I Miss About Traveling

If this was a normal year, I would’ve been on at least two, probably three awesome vacations by now, and I’m still sad that it all didn’t happen. For May, my best friend and I had a trip booked to Budapest, Hungary, and of course, with Corona and all, it did not happen. In June, my mom and I were gonna fly to Texas, USA, to visit our old home – a trip I wanted to make for over twenty years. Obviously, that didn’t happen as well, and with everything going on in the States, who knows when we’ll get the chance again. In September, I would’ve loved to visit Amsterdam, but I didn’t. This year, there will definitely be no traveling for me.

I know that lots of boarders are open again, and I see people being on holiday all over social media. However, personally, I find it irresponsible, and yes, I blame lots of these people for bringing back Corona and getting our numbers up again. I mean sure, go on a hiking or camping trip where you’re outside for the most part and don’t really often come into contact with people. Yes, visit your loved ones abroad. If you have to travel for work and have no choice, fine. All of that I get. But everyone who, for example, thought it was so important to fly to Mallorca or whatever, tanning on packed beaches, partying and whatnot, I can just shake my head at. Yes, I know how much it sucks to cancel a trip, but staying home isn’t the end of the world.

We all don’t know how long it will all be this way, but I doubt there will be much improvement by next year, and I don’t think I’ll do lots of traveling in 2021, as well. Just the thought of crowded airports and packed airplanes right now gives me the creeps. As much as I miss it, it’s not worth the risk, especially at the chance of getting the people I care deeply about sick. Therefore, I’ll stay home and think about all the wonderful places I will go, when all of this is over, or I don’t know, a bit safer, more known, you name it.

So here are all the big and little things I truly miss about traveling because, for me, it is one of the greatest privileges and joys in this world.

Travel Barbie

  • Deciding where to go, finding good offers, and getting everything booked.
  • Scanning travel guides and doing more research online.
  • Making a list of everything I want to do and see.
  • Packing, although usually, I’m not a big fan.
  • The anxiety of something possibly going wrong, but then everything just works out perfectly.
  • Grabbing all the gadgets from my travel box cause I like being prepared for everything.
  • The hustle and bustle at airports.
  • Buying water and a magazine after security check cause for some reason, I suddenly need a magazine for the trip, despite normally not reading any.
  • The overall excitement.
  • Rolling my eyes at people who don’t know that you take fluids and electronics out for security check, after standing in line forever and probably coming across several signs explaining everything.
  • Duty-free shopping.
  • Hanging out at the terminal while waiting for boarding.
  • Constantly being scared that someone will weigh my carry-on luggage.
  • Being on an airplane.
  • Chewing gum for take-off and landing, hoping it helps.
  • Checking the onboard catalog and maybe even buying something.
  • Holding my nose and then blowing to get the pressure off my ears.
  • Figuring out the best way of transportation and being so proud when you figure out the whole system.
  • Taking millions of beautiful photos.
  • Being out and about every day, although I tend to be more of a couch-potato.
  • The wonderful feeling of seeing and experiencing something for the first time.
  • Buying souvenirs I don’t need but love.
  • Always checking if there is enough toilet paper upon arrival at the place I’m staying.
  • Hearing all kinds of different languages.
  • Keeping absolutely everything from tickets to napkins for my travel scrapbook.
  • Just escaping everyday-life for a bit.
  • Going to supermarkets, exploring every aisle, and trying new things.
  • Saying a few words I picked up in the language of the country I’m in.
  • Visiting shops I don’t have back home.
  • Sharing all the wonderful memories on social media.
  • Forever talking about a fun trip when I’m back home.
  • Going through all the photos and keepsakes.
  • Planning the next adventure.

Random Ramblings #4

Apparently, the last time I posted some random ramblings was in 2016. WHAT?!?!?! Sometimes, I don’t understand myself. Because I love just throwing thoughts out there and not going further into detail, so this is perfect. I have to do this more often to get things off my chest and be done with it. So here we go – sorry, not sorry.

Random Ramblings

  • Why is it that there is never just one annoying thing happening? Like, when you’re car breaks down, your phone or whatever follows. Dear universe, why are you like this?
  • How the hell is Trump still president? And how has it been almost four years already?
  • Nothing more frustrating than being endlessly tired but not able to fall asleep.
  • Forever thinking about the right time to cut people out of my life who are clearly not worth the effort.
  • I honestly don’t know if I will ever find out what I really want in life.
  • Will I ever use all of my pretty notebooks?
  • 24 hours in a day are just not enough.
  • The one thing we can probably all agree on is that complaining about the weather is a universal language.
  • People who can’t be alone are exhausting.
  • I miss easier times.
  • If you don’t wear a mask, you are a disgusting and selfish human being.
  • I’m 32 and I still manage to buy the wrong toothpaste once in a while.
  • I always want to make lots of plans but also hide from the world as much as possible.
  • Will there be a day when I’ve read all the books I own?
  • The thought about dying and then people finding my diaries or other really personal things feels weird.
  • How does one become good at adulting?
  • It’s mostly wrong to judge parents, especially when you don’t have children, but sometimes, there is no way around it. Parenting often just seems insane, nowadays.
  • Being able to work from home is one of the best things in the world.
  • I have a whole bed to myself and still sleep on the edge.
  • Whenever I make an effort on Instagram, people just unfollow. That shit ain’t fair.
  • Technololgy drives me insane. It has too much control.
  • Trying to find your glasses while not wearing them is so messed up.
  • Kim would make a better president than Kanye.
  • Ugh, how much I hate the color orange.
  • So, when 2020 is over, the world is gonna go up in flames, right?!
  • I really love being organized, but the files on my computer are just ridiculous.
  • There is nothing wrong with buying a Barbie at age 32.
  • Now that masks are in session, nobody can see you talking to yourself. How amazing is that?! Found out today. It hadn’t occurred to me and I love it.
  • I don’t need a boyfriend. Just someone to tell me to fucking go to bed.
  • Oh, how I love when old guys want to explain life to young women.
  • Printers are the devil.
