The A-Z Of Me

The A-Z Of Me
A
u Pair –
I’ve worked as an au pair in San Francisco for a year and it was a roller coaster ride of emotions but a good experience. I must say, spending time with my little girl was very special and I will never forget any of it. And of course, all the travelling I did was awesome.

Blogging – I guess that one was obvious, since you’re reading this on my blog. I started more than three years ago and it’s very important to me. It’s a great feeling to have other people read my posts and to get positive feedback but I would still do it, even if nobody would care. I’ve always needed writing to deal with things and on my blog, I can just write about whatever I want.

Chocolate – Oh the addiction is real. I really wish I wasn’t that much into it, but I just am. Nutella on a croissant, pudding and anything from Kinder or Milka is definitely good with me. It’s my favorite kind of guilty pleasure, for sure.

Disney – This is definitely one of the most important things in my life. I grew up with Disney and until today, it has been a huge obsession. Most of my favorite movies are Disney, I collect everything from DVD’s to stuffed animals and I really hope that I will go to Disneyland again, soon. Until then, I love living in my own little Disneyworld.

Education – I added this to my ABC because I have a Master’s degree and I’m damn proud of it. Currently, it’s not getting me very far but I’m sure that something will come up, eventually. I would still do it all over again. Those five years proved to me that I can do it and that I am not as stupid as many people thought I was. Trust me when I tell you that hardly anyone thought I had it in me to march through University like a champ but I did. Go me!

Food – Of course I just had to include food because one of my favorite things to do is eat. To be honest, it’s a love-hate relationship because my body often doesn’t like food, too much and I should definitely eat a lot less unhealthy stuff than I am doing, right now. I’m definitely a huge fan of Italian and Asian food because Pizza and Pad Thai are some of the greatest dishes ever invented.

Godmother – Five years ago, my cousin was born and my uncle and aunt asked me to become his godmother. Before they did that, I literally told my mother that I would be super mad if they pick her because she’s too old and I just really wanted to become his godmother. I did and I love that little guy. We’re super close and people even think he’s my son because of the connection we have. Our sleepovers are super great, he always beats me at Mario Cart and when I’m with him, I can just be a kid again.

Humor – It’s the one thing a person needs in order for me to like him and also for them to like me. I can be a very ironic and sarcastic person and it’s hard for me to deal with people who don’t get it. I admit, I have some friends who don’t quite get it, which definitely makes me roll my eyes, but if you’ve known someone forever, you live with it. I’m also not a fan of people who take themselves too seriously. So yeah, humor is super important.

Instagram – I actually included this because p for photography was already taken and I absolutely love exploring the world through my camera. Instagram actually frustrates me because I feel like it’s often not about quality or maybe it’s just me. Or people don’t like my photography, although that is one thing I’ve never been told before and trust me, I’ve heard everything negative about me. So anyway, FOLLOW ME!

Journalist – This has been my dream job forever and I really can’t see myself doing anything else. I just don’t want a job where I do the same things, every single day because It’s just not me. I want to meet lots of different people, write about all kinds of topics and combine what I love to do most, writing and taking photos. I’m sure that this is the right job for me, I’m just struggling to get there but working on it. The job market is insane.

Kid at heart – I always try to keep a little peace of childhood in me because I really don’t like people who take themselves too seriously. Yes, I am 28 and obsessed with Disney, unicorns and everything girly. Disneyland is a beloved travel destination, I always have to take a ride on merry-go-rounds and occasionally, I read a book for teenagers and I’m not afraid to admit it.

Lists – Yes, I am a compulsive lister and I love it. Whenever I have things to do, I start by putting together a list because nothing gives me more satisfaction that ticking something off. I also have lists for all kinds of other things like books I’ve read, movies I’ve watched in a year and whatever else you can list. And to show you that I’m really obsessed with lists, I’ll tell you that I have to write my check marks in pink.

Music – Music has always been super important to me. I bought my first CD when I was six years old and I still buy physical copies. I also love to sing, not only in the shower, and I often miss actually doing in a choir or band. That was pretty fun back in school. I also play a little piano but I was one of these kids who just wasn’t ambitious enough to really learn an instrument and today, I regret it. Yeah, I could start now but oh well. Anyway, music makes my life go round and I couldn’t live without it.

Nineties Babe – I was born in 1988 so my entire childhood was during the awesome 90s and I wouldn’t want to change it for anything in the world. I actually feel sorry for all the kids that couldn’t experience this great era because we had the best toys, the coolest clothes and the most awesome music. I’m really attached to everything that I still have from back then and whenever a cool 90s song comes on, you can see me go nuts.

Open minded – I think that this is one of the most important character trades a person can have. If people had a little more of this, the world would be a much better place. Everyone is always so busy judging others for ridiculous reasons, just because they don’t fit into their worldview. I find it hard to be around people like this and I’m often the one to just lose it and tell people that they’re wrong. Trust me when I tell you that it’s not always easy to sit at one of our family gatherings without yelling at somebody for being stuck in the middle ages.

Pet-peeves – Trust me, I have a ton. There are so many little things that drive me insane like people chewing their gum with an open mouth or when toilet seats are not closed. The list is long and naming all of them would be enough to fill a post.

Questions and Quizzes – Words with Q are definitely not easy to find so I chose these. I actually love answering questions because let’s be honest, I like talking and writing about myself. Always have, always will. And I love crossword puzzles. They count as quizzes, right? And pop quizzes, or game shows. Yeah, I’m nerdy like that.

Rebel – This is what I’ve pretty much always been. If people like something, I usually don’t. When people tell me what to do, I mostly do the opposite. I was never a fan of adapting in order to fit in and being myself was always on the top of my list. I admit that this hasn’t exactly made my life easy but I prefer being real. Trust me, especially my family hasn’t always been a fan of me voicing my opinion or of the choices I made, but that never stopped me from being exactly who I wanted to be.

Singlegirlproblems – Since my blog is called the Undateable’s Girl Diary, this is definitely one of my favorite things to write about. It’s become a super big part of my life and I’m totally ok with that. I love to share my experiences with others and help people realize that being single is not a bad thing and that you can live a happy life without living up to societies’ expectations.

Twitter – I signed up on Twitter in 2009, when me and my friend were bored in class, and I’ve been hooked, ever since. It’s definitely my favorite social media platform and I use it the most. Unfortunately, I spent years of not using it properly. I started with actively taking part in chats, meeting new people, promoting my blog posts etc. just this year and suddenly, people wanted to follow and I’ve met a lot of great human beings. Man, just imagine how much I could’ve achieved if only I had done it right, from the get go.

USA – I was born in Germany but the United States have always been a huge part of my life. I spent a few years of my childhood in Texas and it had a great impact on me and the choices I made. I studied American Studies, I went back to work as an Au Pair in 2014 and it has always been my 2nd home. Although I always thought I want nothing more than work and live there, it’s not on the top of my list, anymore, but I’m not ruling it out, forever. I definitely want to go back for lots of holiday’s because there is still so much I want to see.

Vacation – Yes, I could definitely use one but I can’t really afford it. I would love to travel, visit some beautiful places and definitely get out of the place I’m currently living in, but it’s just not happening. If I could, I would book a trip to Thailand, right now because it’s definitely one of my dream destinations.

World under the sea – I included this because I’m fascinated by it. In my next life, I will hopefully not be afraid of the ocean and better at biology in order to study marine biology. Deep down, that is something I would’ve loved but it was just not meant for me. I love to visit aquariums, I’ve experienced swimming with dolphins at Sixflags which was absolutely amazing and I’ve ignored my fears of the open sea and went snorkeling in Hawaii and actually saw wild dolphins, as well.

X-treme adventures – I still have skydiving and bungee jumping on my bucket list and I really hope, I’ll do these things, someday. Also cliff jumping, paragliding and whatever else you can do. So far, I’ve been ziplining in Hawaii which was a lot of fun and the adrenaline rush is just incredible.

Youth – Growing up for me was pretty awesome. I spent some of my most important childhood years in the States, where I had a great time and my teenage years were pretty cool, as well. It wasn’t always easy but I made the best out of it. If you learn not to let people get to you, you have a lot more fun in life. If I could turn back time, I would either go back to being six, moving to America, or sixteen, having the absolute time of my life with my friends. Life back then was just so much easier.

Zero – clues what word to put in here but I’m sure that the other 25 letters already gave you enough information, so it’s ok.

Goodbye May 2016

Hello awesome readers,

please tell me one thing – How the hell can it be June, already? This is insane and I don’t know why but for some reason, it feels like time is totally running against me. I bet you all know the “oh no, I wanted to do 9324 things” thoughts that I’m having now. I guess I should start, right away.

When I think about how May went, I would say like any other month, before. Lots of emotional ups and downs but I’m trying only to focus on all the good things and everything that made me happy, even if only for a day or two, here and there. Since I still have a lot of time at hand, I try to fill it with lots of activities and dates because otherwise, I would go insane. I feel low pretty much everytime I have nothing planned for the day, so I need to make plans to stay sane. I admit that I fall into a little hole, everytime the fun days end but everyone around me just doesn’t have as much time as I do.

So back to focussing on all the positive things. I finally saw the incredible Adele live in concert and it really blew me away. That woman is magnificent and I will never forget how wonderful she made me feel. I also went to a 90s open air that I’m still raving about because helloooo?! that was definitely the best era. With live acts like Culture Beat and Rednex the crowd went wild, including me. I went absolutely crazy and it felt awesome. I also went to the movies, had some coffee dates with friends I don’t see very often, partied a bit and spent two days with my best friend in the whole wide world. Whenever we’re together, life is just so much more fun.

The weather was a lot better which definitely helped with the good mood, except for those few days when I felt miserable due to a big fat cold. We already had our first barbeque and it was delicious. I skyped with my baby girl that I took care of as an au pair, I ate Pad Thai (note: If I don’t move to a big city soon, I will go insane. They don’t even have food like that anywhere around here.), I finally started hitting up the tanning salon again, went on a little shopping spree and a few more things that made me smile. Sometimes, the little things count much more than you think.

So overall, it was a good month. I just need to keep trying to make it good. June 1st seems like a good date to get back to getting my butt out of bed and actually doing things, with other people or not. The only problem is that lying in bed and binge-watching one show after another is just so tempting when you have pretty much nothing else to do. But I promise, I’ll try to do less of that. To my defence, I left the house on at least half the days of this month. (Don’t judge me!)

I won’t think about or list the negative things now because there is literally no point in doing that. As I do every month, I try to look forward and not let past happenings bring me down because it doesn’t get me anywhere. Maybe June will bring something major, you never know. (Don’t even think of telling me that it will all be fine. I hate when people say it. I know they mean well but it’s such a meaningless phrase!)

I hope you all had a great month of May and will have an even greater June. If you want, let me know what’s going on in your lives and what has been your highlight of the month. Listening to other positive stories is great and inspiring.

Lots of positive thoughts and happenings to all of you!

XO Hailey

Mixtape #13 – Boybands

Mixtape #13 - Boybands

I really love putting together these mixtapes but it definitely sounds easier than it is. It took me forever to put the Girlbands together, but Boybands wasn’t much better, either. Most of these bands had maybe one or two big hits that people still remember and therefore, we only think of the really successful groups. Gladly, a little digging never hurt nobody and it’s amazing what songs pop back up and I really hope that you feel the same way when you read some of these. Let me know if any of these songs trigger your memory. I definitely want to know on which boyband hottie you had a crush on. My number one was Nick Carter, always and forever. (Adult me sooo doesn’t get it.)

The 7 Day Nature Photography Challenge

In the past few weeks, this challenge became pretty popular among bloggers, especially those who are into lovely photographs. Normally, I’m supposed to post seven photos, one for each day of the week, but I decided to put it all into one post. I’ve got nominated for this challenge by three lovely bloggers, whom I met on Twitter and they are some of my favorite people to chat with. So please give This and Tatt, Tea is for Tina and Hannah Emily Lane a visit, follow them, say hello because they’re really great. In case I forgot someone who nominated me, please tell me because I am terrible at remembering or I oversee things on Twitter. This time, I’m not going to nominate anyone specifically because I feel like if you love photography and nature, just do this. Furthermore, I think most of my favorite photography people have already been nominated, before.

Nature photography is one of my absolute favorites and I do it a lot, myself. I love exploring the world through my camera lens and to keep these memories, forever. Animals and flowers in particular have always been motives that I try to capture. I will show you some photos from all kinds of different places and of course tell you a little something about them. I admit that it was definitely not easy to choose only seven, so maybe, I’ll include more of these posts, in the future. However, if you like my pictures, you can always check out my photography category to look at a lot more.

Heart carved in a tree

My first picture shows a heart carved into a tree and what happens to it after a few years. I remember one of my best friends being over and we were doing what girls do, taking pictures in my backyard. I don’t know exactly why we had this idea but my friend carved this heart into one of our trees and believe me, my parents weren’t super pleased. But this was ours and it stood for our friendship. Unfortunately, the tree isn’t there anymore but gladly, I have this photo to remind me of super fun times and we’re still going strong.

Volcanopark Hawaii, Big Island

I took this picture during a week in Hawaii and it shows volcanic rock. One day, we drove to the Volcano National Park and went for a hike around and across a huge crater that is still steaming. What my friends and me found most fascinating is the fact that even in this, what looks like dead land, plants still grow and how the circle of nature works in special areas, like this. I also like that the rocks have different colors and one is not like the other.

Deers

Nature not only includes plants but also animals. Therefore, I had to include some cuties and it was really hard to decide which ones. I chose these two deers because everytime I look at this photo, I imagine the cutie on the left whispering something into to the right cutie’s ear. This was taken at a amusement and wildlife park, where the deers roamed around freely and were obviously used to people being close to them, since they weren’t shy, at all.

Ocean Beach San Francisco

As many of you may know by now, I lived in San Francisco for a year and of course, I had to include a picture that shows a glimpse of its beauty. I took this photo the first time I went to Ocean Beach and I definitely loved watching the sun set over there, every single time. Just driving toward this beach reveals a breathtakingly beautiful view and it’s even prettier toward the end of the day. I definitely miss living in a place where it just takes you a short car ride to reach the beach.

Wissembourg France

In 2014, I visited a good friend of mine who lives near the French border. Therefore, we took a little trip to a town called Wissembourg and I thought parts of it looked exactly like you would imagine a town in France to look like. I think it’s so beautiful how the river runs right next to the houses and everything is surrounded by plants and pretty flowers. I remember it being an absolute lovely day and I liked using some of my language skills from very long ago.

Daisy

I took this in my grandma’s garden and I included it because I love taking pictures of everything I find in both of my grandma’s green spaces. This daisy was very near to my birth tree, wich is a huge magnolia tree, and I don’t know why I don’t have a picture of it. It’s definitely on my list of things to do, this summer. I love spending time in these gardens and of course with my grandparents. I also chose to include this because it reminds me of all the times I played “he loves me, he loves me not” cause that’s just what girls do and I usually used a daisy to find out who truly loves me. Or not.

Break of dawn

As you can probably tell, this picture does not have a very good quality. It’s smaller and a little pixellated. I wanted to include it anyway, because it has always been one of my favorites. It’s been about 10 years and it was with the first digital camera I ever owned. I remember driving home at the break of dawn and thinking how great the area looked in this morning haze and just stopped in the middle of the road, rolled down my window and took this picture. I’m not sure where exactly I came from, but I guess it was a fun party, since I got home pretty late, or early, for that matter.

11 Facts About Me

01. I am absolutely addicted to binge-watching pretty much every TV show there is.
02. When I was a teenager, Barbie and Paris Hilton were my idols but today, I’m not really anything like that, anymore. Fun times, though.
03. My wardrobe pretty much consists of four colors: black, white, gray and pink. If you see me in anything else, it’s an exception.
04. A part of me will be forever stuck in the 90s. Man, I really miss my childhood days.
05. I sniff books.
06. My phone case is one of those snowglobe kinda thingies.
07. I have a godson who is 5 years old and I absolutely adore him.
08. I really love doing crossword puzzles.
09. When I go on a free fall tower, I always end up crying because it literally takes my breath away and that is an awful feeling. I should really never go again.
10. Deep down, I want to be a Disney Princess.
11. I have a Master’s degree in American Studies.

My Answers

01. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?
I love eating sweet popcorn with chips and salsa but I’m not sure if that’s so majorly weird. I also eat Nutella with quark or creme cheese and I know people who think it’s weird. This is pretty much about as weird as it gets. I don’t really think I could eat super weird things because for me, it’s often a head thing and when something so much as looks disgusting, I can’t eat it.

02. What is the top destination on your travel bucket list?
It used to be Hawaii but then I went there, which wasn’t as picture perfect as I imagined it to be, and now it’s Thailand. Australia and Iceland are also pretty high on the list.

03. Do you have any tattoos or piercings?
I have three tattoos and I always wanted more but usually, I needed the money for other things. If it wasn’t for my mom, I would probably have all kinds of horrible tattoos and piercings, so now that I’m an adult, I’m not mad at her for not allowing me to get some, anymore.

04. What’s your earliest childhood memory?
Oh God, I really don’t know. I definitely moved around a bit so it’s a little blurry, here and there. We moved to the States when I was a baby, then moved back to the northern part of Germany, where we moved twice and so on. I definitely remember exactly how the apartments were built and how the rooms looked, I could probably draw an exact map. A memory is having a friend living on our street, who’s family had a farm and I’m pretty sure we played in the hay because some bits and pieces of this pop into my head, sometimes. I feel like all memories until I turned maybe 6 are definitely super blurry and a lot of them gone, even though I have a pretty good memory when it comes to personal experiences.

05. What’s your dream job?
I really want to become an actual journalist and I’m working on getting there and I know, I will.

06. What’s your biggest regret in life so far?
There are always moments when I think I should’ve done something differently in my life, but I know that I would probably make the same decisions, all over again. I definitely regret not having travelled more because I was busy spending too much money on stuff I didn’t need. And I maybe should’ve enjoyed student life a little more than I did, but oh well, it was all for a reason.

07. Who would you like to meet – dead or alive?
My number one answer to this is always Martin Luther King Jr. because he is definitely one of my personal heroes. I’d also love to hang out with Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Shumer and Adele because they’re hilarious and they would be my number one squad. And also, the Kardashians, duh!

08. If you could change one thing about your appearance, what would it be?
Lose weight by waving a magical wand? Yeah, that would be great because I’m a total lazy pants. Furthermore, I always wanted my ears closer to my head, although it’s actually not bad. Only happening in my head. I’d also wouldn’t mind to have smaller teeth and yeah, I’d definitely take a pair of bigger boobs. But there is nothing I would die for changing about myself. I can live with my appearance, very well.

09. Have you ever fallen over in public?
For sure, since I’m a pretty clumsy person. I can think of a fall on the subway or on a bus because I didn’t hold on to something when the ride started. My favorite fall over was at a party, though. It was my birthday, my friends and me went to a party, I was already drunk when we got there and after like 3 minutes inside the party tent, I wanted to lean against something that I thought was a little fence when it was only a very thin metal rope. When you lean back with full force, you can imagine that you’ll fall over all the way, including your legs up in the air and all. One of my friends witnessed it all and was shocked because my head passed a big pole only by a few centimeters. Some people pulled me back up, I looked for my crown (literally!), squeezed it back together because it got trampled down, and continued having a blast. I only discovered the pain and the large black and blue mark on my thigh the next morning when the alcohol lost it’s effect. Fun times.

10. Do you have a celebrity crush, and who are they?
I used to have plenty growing up, with Nick Carter being my absolute number one. I usually have crushes on hot soccer players and I chose the goalie of my favorite team. I don’t think I’ve ever been to crazily obsessed with a celebrity, though.

11. What’s your favorite film?
It’s so hard to name only one because there are just so many good one, out there. Dirty Dancing, Clueless, 10 Things I Hate About You, The Beauty and The Beast and so many more.

Me myself and I

My Questions

02. What was your dream job as a child?
03. What is your favorite book?
04. Do you have a pet?
05. Where did you last go on vacation?
06. Have you ever had a personal police encounter of any sort?
07. What movie would you have loved to play a role in?
08. If you could live in any city of the world, which one would it be?
